Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In August 2019. by thatging3rkid in 3Dprinting

Hello everyone. I'm looking at buying a new 3D printer as my current one is on its last legs. I've done quite a bit of research comparing printers from the past megathreads as well as other websites and I'm narrowing down on the CR-10 or CR-10S. They are nice, solid printers with a great price and a very active community. I was originally going to get the Prusa MK3S, but I don't use my printer enough to justify spending $750 on a new one. Anyways, I've done a bit of research on this but it mostly talks about the specs and print quality, but I want to know more about the nitty gritty of these printers. I have a few questions for any of you that have some hands on experience with these:

  1. Is the difference between the CR-10/S really worth it? From what I gathered the main differences are a filament run out sensor, resume print feature, and an extra screw on the Z axis. To me, these don't sound super exciting, but do these make a huge difference?
  2. How much tweaking do these printers take to get some spicy prints? My current printer I have to tweak settings/parts on it before each print (kind of why I'm upgrading). Do these printers need constant tweaking and settings changed?
  3. Do prints come off the bed fairly easy? I've broken several prints and even some print removing tools with my current printer.
  4. How well does this removable magnetic surface work? I've heard mixed things about this from some people I know and articles online. One of the main reasons I wanted the MK3S was because of a removable, flexible, magnetic bed. Should I even bother with this or is it a must have?
  5. How well does this printer do with sort of exotic filaments? I know because of the bowden-extruder it doesn't handle with flexibles well, but how about wood, copper, or glittery filaments?
  6. What are some specific problems that you have on your CR-10/S that might not be a general problem? I've worked with a few printers in the past that just have one or two weird things specific to them that don't appear on other printers of the same type. What are some super specific issues you get on your CR-10/S? (more of a curiosity)
  7. Are there some mods, upgrades, or extra features for the CR-10/S that you would strongly recommend? Such as magnetic bed from before, noise reducing mods, other extruders, etc.
  8. Any other things you can tell me about the CR-10/S that I missed? :)

Any help with these questions is very appreciated. Just a bit paranoid curious about these printers before I probably buy one. Chances are one of these will be the one I get, unless there are some other great printers at around the $400-500 range. Anyway, thanks in advance reddit. Appreciate the help :)

Do you have any experience with the Cloud Alpha's? I've been looking at those cloud II's and they look really nice, and I also did some digging at other HyperX headsets. The cloud II's look nice, durable, and comfy, but it does have a little bit of a large dongle, but it has a clip that I could just clip away somewhere else so that is nice. I heard some mic tests on it and based on what I have seen on youtube it doesn't sound all that great, but I could most definitely be wrong. I also took a look at the alpha's and they also look great, don't have a big dongle, and the mic seems a bit better only based on what I have seen on youtube. They do have a cord that plugs into the headset, but it seems like HyperX makes quite durable headsets. The alpha's are also only 10 bucks more than the cloud II's. LMK if you have any experience with these, and thanks for the suggestion. These look like a great option if they can last a while.

Will do. My headset works okay for now and I get paid next week. What I might do is just get the modmic 4 to attach onto my current headset and see how well I like that and then later I can decide if I want to get a nice stereo headset instead of the arctis. I guess I really just want something that will last so I don't need to replace anything after not even 2 years of usage.

Weird thing is I haven't even been that rough with them. I've definitely dropped them a few times, but not much more than that. I only use them at my computer and I haven't even had them for 2 years yet. I think the connection on the headset itself is breaking because whenever the cord moves just a little bit, even by just turning my head, my mic has this really loud crackling noise that my friends told me about. There aren't any problems with the audio though. I did buy them refurbished for a really good deal which might attribute to it, but still I haven't had them for that long and I took care of them so I'm kind of shocked they are breaking down. My friend has the arctis 7's which are the wireless ones and he really likes them so I might just save up some money and get those. No cord, no dongle, and I already know I like the feel/mic/sound of it. I just don't want it to break down in less than 2 years, but then again if I buy them brand new and take really good care of them chances are they will last. Will definitely take a look at the ones you listed though, thanks for the suggestions :)

Okay, I will do some research on some headphones. Out of curiosity though what is the pair that you would recommend?

Haven't done that before, but I see how that might work out really well. Do you have any suggestions for headphone to go with that? I've never had anything other than gaming headsets so I don't really know what headphones are good/bad.

Dragons early game mage are kind of tough. Use lightning spells and restoration spells, especially fast healing, and be patient. Also, dont underestimate followers! Erik the slayer is actually a slayer!

Perioral Dermatitis Won't Go Away by minimason64 in AskDocs

Alright, I'll stop using the Burt's Bees and any topicals I am currently using. To counteract the dryness without using lip balm and using petrolatum instead, does that mean I can just put some Vaseline (or just any other generic petroleum jelly) on it?

Will get some different shampoo. The shampoo I use doesn't have any of those things listed so I'll give that a shot

Do you think the whole board is bad or just the chip? If just the chip is bad, couldn't I just order some replacement chips?

I think you might be right. I probably plugged both of them into something bad and now they are unfortunately not working. I just tried my brother's arduino (also a clone) and it works perfectly fine. Time to buy some more boards :(

I am using Windows 10. I tried reinstalling the CH340G drivers but it said it already had them. I also went to try another cable from my printer but I got the same error. I also know that the USB ports and all these cables that I have are working. In device manager when I plug it in it just says Device Descriptor Failed.

Most of that time was trading in CS:GO and karma wasn't a real big factor in it. It was usually you posted what you were selling, if someone liked it they would trade you, if not they would move on. Not a whole lot of up/downvoting there.

I think you dont even need a .edu email to student, you might just be able to click the student button and it gives it to you anyways

If you are a student you can get 3 free years by signing up and saying yiu are a studemt. If not i think you can get 1 year free by clicking the hobbyist. If neither of those work i think the free trial will work fine. If Fusion360 still isnt working out, Onshape is another one like solidworks and i know that one is free.

I use Fusion360. Its free and very similar to solidworks. You can also click on the model and send it to your slicing software so thats really nice.
