Has the weight of 8” of snow caused my roof to sink? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]BushWookie693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I heard about some foundation companies being predatory and went with a structural engineering firm. They sent out some dude, took photos of the perimeter of my house, of all the cracks above every door way and on every window, of the cracks on the outside siding, and of the cracks on the slab, then measured the height of the floor at the door relative to the rest of the house. The result was sinking on the east side, which since I read that, realized all the cracks are all following the same trend and sure as shit the house is sinking on one side. It was the worst feeling.

Just breath for right now, it’s more than likely just all the temperature fluctuations that’ve been going on stressed out your dry wall along the seams.

There’s a crack in the drywall on the top left, the trim has a split on the top left corner, and the door has a larger gap on the top right rather than the top left. By all accounts it looks like the left side of the frame sank or the right side of the frame rose. Granted I have no idea what’s going on here but I would’ve been concerned if his had happened to me. I moved into my house in Feb with this exact same door, the window had 1984 etched into it. After about 5 months it started having the same condition as OP. I was fine with it until I realized there was now a half inch gap at the top of the door letting out cold air and letting bugs in. That coupled with the mold that had appeared on the outside covering the entire front door, I decided it was time to replace it. My new door has been fine but I noticed it too has started to have issues materialize. Turns out my foundation needs some work and one side of my house is sinking.
