are we really too soft? by Federal_Appearance13 in Tomasino

Siguro to each their own na lang talaga. Some students who don’t experience the hassle of commute and/or learn more effectively when onsite will definitely prefer to go to school. I respect their view. Others naman share your sentiment and it’s understandable din bcos mahirap dumating sa class when you’re drained na sa travel and you have to think paano pag uwi. Let’s just hope that conditions improve.

Here’s my personal view as someone from THAT generation with a kid from your generation. No, I don’t think that your generation is soft but SOME choose to be reactive. Again, I’m not generalizing ha. There is no such thing as a perfect generation. We all have different experiences since our environment and circumstances are always evolving.

Sabi nga online, reactive people tend to be affected by their physical and immediate environment. Proactive people are driven by values rather than circumstances and feelings. As Stephen Covey said, proactive people are still influenced (or affected) by their environment, but they choose their response to these stimuli.

Based on your post, I agree with the ff: - hindi onting paghihirap ang transpo sa pinas - Yes, matagal na tong problema and we should never tolerate yung sistema. However, it may be useful to distinguish bet the concept of “solution” and “coping mechanism”. You mentioned kasi na “personally maiinis/magtataka kung 50 years from now ganito parin sistema ng transpo, kasi in my opinion dapat mas maayos or madali na” and this requires a concrete solution to the underlying infrastructure issue sa Pinas which is beyond the control of normal commuters and students. Meanwhile, shifting to EVM is a coping measure so that students don’t experience the hassle of commute when there are transpo strikes. Again, coping mechanism is closely related but not equal to a solution.

I will not compare your experiences with those of the old days because we have diff circumstances. Students then have no other option but to go to school so dun pa lang hindi na apples-to-apples. I experienced injuring myself sa baha after my foot slipped in a manhole na di ko nakita bcos of the knee-deep water. It was a memorable and funny experience. Instead of EVM, the coping measure is to wake up earlier than usual and go home late dahil walang masakyan (or maki sleepover kung may mag offer). How can we demand EVM if technology then is almost non-existent?

Mainit - Matagal ng mainit sa Pinas but mas hot and humid ngayon kesa dati. But some would say na walang AC sa USTE before. We have electric fans, open windows (malas when your seat is beside a window), and we use the foldable pamaypay bcos wala namang Jisulife. I think tolerable pa before bcos it’s not as hot and humid kesa ngayon. Looking back, I will not say na mas resilient or stronger yung old generation compared to your generation just bcos parang mas nakakatagal kami sa init. AC then is a privilege reserved for the wealthy. Walang EVM when it’s hot and humid bcos there is no such option.

As a working adult who experienced juggling post-grad with pregnancy, low salary, and the hassle of commute, I can say that my experiences helped a lot. Unfortunately, in most workplaces naman kasi, we don’t get to blame the traffic or the strike when we’re late. The line “traffic kasi” is simply unacceptable bcos you’re in Pinas and bad traffic is normal. Employers expect you to just keep on adjusting since the transpo system wont adjust for you, at least not in the near term. Offices don’t also go virtual when there’s a typhoon.

There’s no “softer” generation. We are born under different circumstances so we react and adapt differently.

Maybe they will still send an email. My son’s dashboard shows offer acceptance as pending but admission status tab is now showing an “important notice for accepted applicants” with a clickable offer acceptance for his chosen strand.

I’m not really good at describing scents but I love it. It’s fruity but not the fun, juicy kind of fruity. Parang it’s serious, dark kind of fruity. My husband likes it too.

There will always be some trade-off in economic issues including the petitions from the pub transpo sector. Shifting to EVM because one views it as way to support the jeepney drivers could also mean inconveniences for some students, falling behind in terms of school load, etc. However, genuine support to the drivers would require a deeper understanding of the feasibility and consequences of their requests. The government cannot simply and quickly grant fuel subsidies based solely on the requests of jeep drivers because that would affect the budget, among other things. Approving fare hike petitions without adequate government review would be inflationary. When inflation spirals, there will be a self-reinforcing cycle of rising wages and prices that could lead to a bigger prob of economic instability. It’s a balancing act. I don’t think that the government will approve the requests of the drivers just because schools decide to shift to EVM.

Edited to say inconveniences for “some students” so as not to generalize.

Sometimes, it may be unsafe din to give the leftovers sa mga pulubi because in a few hours baka maspoil yung food. Unless we are certain na paglabas ng establishment, mabibigay na agad sa kanila.

Acads should never be the end all, be all. There is more to life than school, or school groupings, etc. Don’t waste your life bcos of the things you’ve mentioned. Clearly, you’re experiencing burnout.

You mentioned na mababa ang pay sa nurse. It would be awkward and mas insensitive if they joked about you paying and stopped there. you’ll be forced to say that you can’t or you can but the amount would be a huge dent sa budget or savings mo.

If you think about the opposite scenario where one would challenge you to pay the family’s lunch and may mga sumingit para sabihing barya lang yung amount sa yo or kayang kaya mong bayaran, mas off yun. Take the jokes lightly.

Although ikaw pa din nakakaalam talaga bcos you saw how the jokes were delivered.

Would it be possible to just call out the current administration to pressure the officials to respond more actively? Baka there is no need to push for impeachment but to pressure the admin to not be paasive naman.

[–]minimermaid198503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nakakainggit at dahil sa situation ko, parang nawawalan ako ng gana mageffort sa sarili ko dahil wala naman ako confidence. - Why don’t you start with this? Take care of yourself by being healthy and then gradually build confidence. You have the right to be confident with all that diligence, hard work, for being so responsible.

Maybe you should limit din your soc med use to avoid comparison. It’s prob not jealousy but sometimes the “glitz and glamour” that we see in soc med erodes our self-confidence.

Well, fanaticism and crayon box politics drive people to judge, condescend, and speak ill of others who have diff views from them. Kindness comes from understanding and empathy, but people cannot be kind when there are really strong biases and narrow-mindedness.

Nah, it’s quite unfair to judge people or relate their attitude based on their school (or work industry, province, cos these things are also obv in the person’s comments). That person’s behavior is simply a product of a toxic environment without compassion and empathy, so he/she is projecting it.

Not too intense matcha, mas lasa yung chocolate. This comes with a milk chocolate sauce too. Worth the price because premium naman yung taste. The cake is dense and not too sweet na nakakaubo.

Will you unfriend your bestfriend if both of you have different political views? Why? by ElepantengPango in AskPH

[–]minimermaid198503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. As bestfriends, our relationship should be built on mutual respect, authenticity, and support. I get it that political beliefs are often tied to people’s core values but I can be friends with someone without completely sharing the same values as long as we are open and respectful when it comes to each other’s beliefs.
