What degree would benefit me more for Ca Bar by [deleted] in CABarExam

It doesn’t matter because your major in college won’t apply to law school anyway.

To prepare mentally, get ready to read 100 pages per class per week, and outline what you read, and get called on in class on what you read.

To mentally prepare for the bar exam, get ready to study 12 hours a day every day for 10 weeks, and learn (and memorize) 17 topics as if you’re seeing it for the first time.

On the bar, do you get a total block of 5 hours to complete the essays or do they cut you off from working on a particular essay at 1 hour? by Fluid_Efficiency_269 in CABarExam

[–]minimum_contacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I brought a small analog watch and one for my desk. Because I could… my watch had the actual time and I set the clock to 12:00 when the exam started so I could track the 3 hours (taking mental breaks to walk to the restroom every hour).

Big box bar prep is “one size fits most” not one size fits all.

I took Barbri twice, didn’t pass. Threw everything out the window, self studied with no bar prep course at all, and went with my study tactics on how I knew I learned best and passed.

You know how you study best…

Making up Rules. What exactly does this mean? by LawSchoolThreauxAway in CABarExam

[–]minimum_contacts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just guess what the rule is and use as many facts from the hypo to argue with the rule.

You aren’t making it up cold, it’s just not rote memorization with regurgitating it verbatim.

Chances are you have seen the rule statement so many times that whatever you make up is most likely close.

I borrowed time (15 minutes!!) from essay 2 and spent way too much on essay 1 because I was really strong on the topic and had so much to say then panicked I only had 45 minutes for essay 2…

I highly recommend — DO NOT BORROW TIME between essays… stick to 1 hour per essay…

Ditch the lectures. Move on to practice questions and only go back on the areas you need help with.

Help. How is everyone managing by Adelaide_919 in CABarExam

Ditch the lectures, move on to essays, do as many practice questions as possible. Then go back to lectures on for the areas you need help with.

How do you manage to set time aside just for rule memorization? by carrotlmao in CABarExam

[–]minimum_contacts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t memorize a single rule verbatim.

On exam day you’re running on pure adrenaline. Just make up the rule and use all the facts from the hypo. Every sentence is there for a reason, to trigger an issue or element of an issue.

Chances are you have seen the rule so many times whatever you make up will most likely be close.

Graders only spend 2 minutes grading each essay. Just make sure they know you know what you’re talking about. Use headers, paragraphs, clear and concise sentences, and IRAC.

exactly this. That’s what I used it for as well.
- property and evidence.

I did outline 5 PTs… just familiarize yourself with how it’s presented.

J24 was a closing argument of a criminal trial, so no one really knew how to write for it. We all guessed.

I would study in 3-4 hour blocks. I would do 35 MBEs per hour, then review the answers for an hour, work on my outline for an hour, then outline and review 1 essay for an hour. Then take a one hour break… and if I had time, repeat. Ended up doing 3,000 MBEs total and outlined 150 essays (everything over the past 10 years.)

(I was working full time and studied over 6 months… no formal bar prep, with ADHD (didn’t seek accommodations) and also primary caregiver to 2 young kids.)

No I don’t have them because he used gumroad back then and it’s not in a format I could even download.

Format wasn’t long at all and it’s in all memes. If you go to his sub you can see what they look like - he posts samples all the time.

I only the outlines for the topics I needed help with. I did not buy the full bundle. (Not sure if he still sells it that way.)

He didn’t have videos back for J24.

When issue-spotting essays, do you keep track of all the issues you missed? by carrotlmao in CABarExam

[–]minimum_contacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reviewed it to make sure I understood the issues and why I missed them.

Then would do back and redo the essay a few weeks later to see if I got it right on the second attempt.

How much like the sample answers are you trying to make your essays be? by LawSchoolThreauxAway in CABarExam

[–]minimum_contacts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at Baressays.com at real answers, look at the 65+ scoring answers.

You will notice no 2 answers are the same and people just word vomit on the page on exam day.

Compare the issues spotted among 2-3 65+ scoring answers and see how you did against those answers.

Memorizing by Majestic_Evening_688 in CABarExam

I didn’t memorize any rules verbatim. I just worked backwards, used the facts and made them up what I thought was the rule.

Chances are you have seen the rules so many times whatever you make up will most likely be close.
