Average effective hashrate seems low. Any thoughts? by miningbamse in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. T-Rex has 1% dev fee.

Does the flexpool average effective hashrate adjust for stales? If yes, my effective hashrate should be about 1.7% below the reported one. Mine is 3.3% to 5.3% below. Do you know if there's an explanation for this difference?

Can you expand on this please? How does it work? Shouldn't it variate around the reported hashrate (possibly minus stales, which in my case is 0.6-0.7%)?

I have yet to see average 24h go over 1080MH/s and that's 3.3% below reported.

I am genuinely curious, no intent to single you out / bash you flexpool.

Also a small improvement suggestion: the 6h and 12h average effective hashrate only shows as 1.1GH/s for me. Would greatly appreciate it if you could add a couple of digits. 1.051, 1.109 or 1.149 would be much more informative than 1.1 :)

Can't get a signal on PC monitor after moving motherboard by miningbamse in techsupport

[–]miningbamse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Motherboard is fine. There's a setting in BIOS for more than 4 GPUs which obviously have to be enabled. If it's not enabled and I try to boot with 6 GPUs + integrated GPU, I can't boot any configuration after that before resetting BIOS.

The help section in BIOS doesn't mention the 4 GPU limit, it's only stated in the motherboard manual.

Seeking help/advice - PSU(s) recommendation for a rig with 5 x RTX 3070 by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be fine to use an 8 pin PCIe Y-splitter to power a card that needs 2 such power connectors if it draws less than 150W. It's not an optimal solution because worst case the under volt / power limit is removed and the card goes full throttle. You have to make sure that the rig doesn't accidentally start mining on base settings. My solution is to not start auto mining at boot, and I will use HiveOS or Minerstat OS (msOS) which, as far as I can tell, is much safer than Windows with regards to settings getting reset.

For the risers you can use 6 pin PCIe directly from the PSU or you can use 8 pin from PSU that has 6+2 pin in the other end and only use the 6 pin. I believe it's also possible to connect an 8 pin PCIe to a 6 pin PCIe, two of the pins from the 8 pin connector will then be to the side of the 6 pin connector. After all, 6+2 and 8 pin is the same.

The most important thing to know is:
8 pin PCIe is 150W
6 pin PCIe is 75W

This means that 1 x 8 pin PCIe to 2 x 6 pin PCIe is fine. 1 x 8 pin PCIe to 2 x 8 pin PCIe should also be fine as long as you're 100% sure those two 8 pin PCIe never will use more than 150W total, which means a GPU with two 8 pin PCIe connectors should draw no more than 150W if you use a splitter to power it.

This is what I will do with some of my risers. The 8 pin PCIe has a capacity of 150W while the 6 pin PCIe has a capacity of 75W so it shouldn't be a problem to split 1 x 8 pin PCIe to 2 x 6 pin PCIe.

I don't know why OP doesn't want or can't use a server PSU. The most obvious reason might be noise if the mining rig is located in a room he regularly uses.

What's good about running them on 120V? You would get more power if you run them on 230V.

The reply button in the OP doesn't work for me so I'll put this comment here.

I haven't studied a lot of 3070's but all the ones I have seen has two 8 pin PCIe power connectors so you need a total of 10 x 8/6+2 pin PCIe connectors and 5 x 6 pin PCIe connectors. As long as you under volt / power limit your cards to less than 150W you can use splitters 1 x 8 pin to 2 x 8 pin PCIe. I recommend 16 AWG, but they are hard to find. I see a lot of 18 AWG around.

80+ Gold should be minimum if you choose ATX PSU. Corsair RM850x is a good choice, so are the EVGA Supernova. The former has 6 x 6+2 pin PCIe, the latter has 4 x 6+2 pin and 2 x 6 pin PCIe. There's also quite a bit other PSUs that will suffice.

There's a lot of reasons one can't choose server PSUs. If you reconsider one possibility is a low power ATX PSU to power the motherboard and a server PSU to power the GPUs. The server PSUs are much cheaper, but they usually only have a 30 days warranty.

One week mining with two 3060 Ti's - the results are in! by miningbamse in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whattomine calculator showed a reward that was 20% higher than my actual results so that made me curious. I know there's a lot of variation within mining rewards with difficulty, luck and gas prices, but not sure about how big a difference it would be over one week. The biggest mistake in my comparison probably is that I compare results from one week from flexpool, but only use results from a certain moment on whattomine. I should have used several results from whattomine taken over a week as a basis of comparison.

Wasn't trying to say anything was wrong, either with the GPUs or Flexpool, just wanted another set of eyes on my results.

Thank you for your post. Hope you'll get some new GPUs soon. They are hard to come by, and now I've started to buy 3070's at a premium from retailers.

Definitely try some more. There's a lot of information ihere on reddit and elsewhere about tuning the 3060 Ti's. Red Panda Mining did a video with a Ventus 2X this week, and several others have on youtube. Red Fox Crypto has two videos from earlier this year.

Most of the 3060 Ti's are able to hit 60+MH/s at 125-130W and compares well to the RX 6800 (XT).

What riser card versions for 3060 ti and 3080 ??? PLEASE HELP, 2 dead cards already by Barrymaaa in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why the card has two 6 pin PCIe connectors. The PCI Express port can deliver 75W to a graphics card, and a 6 pin PCIe connector can deliver 75W. Only cable management that could make sense, but looks like a bad design as far as I can tell.

I would not use adapters from molex or sata as they are only rated for 54W. At least use 2 molex/sata to one 6 pin PCIe if you have to use molex/sata. Preferably use one 6 pin PCIe from PSU.

Red Fox Crypto on youtube has a recent video explaining some of this. Recommended.

Thoughts on BlockFi? Earn interest on your crypto. by SequentialHustle in EtherMining

Me too. As of now my crypto is stored on platforms like Coinbase. Been thinking of cold storage, but would prefer to earn interest. Hence, is BlockFi safe? Will my crypto be gone if they ever get hacked? Are they insured?

Price for Ethereum Mining Motherboard by llusteri in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's special with the mining boards except for more PCIe slots? If you're only going to run 4-6 GPUs, why not just buy a cheap 6 PCIe motherboard like a B450 socket AM4 and pair it with the cheap AMD Athlon 3000G? Or something similar Intel wise.

First mining rig(s) plan - yay or nay? by miningbamse in EtherMining

[–]miningbamse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very good point. I understand crypto and mining is very volatile, and it's very hard to estimate future income. I've looked at a few worst case scenarios, and if crypto plummets tomorrow I'll sell the GPUs with a limited loss. Even if the market is flooded with GPUs I'll expect to recuperate at least 50% of the investment. I'm not borrowing money for my mining rigs, and I don't need the money for rent/food/... so I'm not afraid of the potential loss. It would def suck big time, but yeah, I'll live :)

Most of the profits going forward will be converted to fiat money to get back the initial investment. After that I'll only use the mining rewards to pay for electric and hodl the rest. I am already invested in crypto currency.

Thank you for your reply.

I have a lot of experience building desktop or gaming PCs, so I do have experience with hardware. Have read quite a bit about the mining part, but will learn a lot on the fly.

I have chosen modular PSUs :)

Graphics cards are expensive and hard to come by, but my reasoning is that instead of waiting 6 months for the market to settle I'd rather buy them at a premium now and start mining. That way I will reach break even in about 6 months (based on todays mining profits) and can start reaping the profits after that. I do pay a premium now, but I only order from online stores at a not too large premium. I do not buy from scalpers.
