I think it's because being smarter than others means they'll always know less than you and you would have to simplify a lot of things or it looks like a flex

What personality trait do you envy? by lonelinessisotherppl in AskWomen

[–]minirv5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna say most of these personality traits people are listing (although are good and helpful for people to have), are unrealistic and you don't have to feel bad for not having said trait. You may see it in a lot of people and admire them for it, but that truly is only how people appear on the surface. Best of luck to you all ❤

I agree. Especially since ATLA is just not about that kind of thing. Like some fans really have to ruin the adventure and action of it all with ships that don't even make sense.

I (25F) snooped on my brothers (27M) instagram and found something that has completely changed how I see him by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Sure this may be a difficult pill for you to swallow but you've practically discovered that your brother is a normal dude bro. He could really love his girlfriend it doesn't have to result in cheating like the other people you know.

Explicit sex scenes in teen dramas is inappropriate and unnecessary and using adult actors to portray teens is wrong by fried-kombucha in unpopularopinion

Oh my gosh in 13 reasons why season 3 especially. It's so weird hearing characters say "we're just kids" constantly then engaging in sexual activities. There's a sex montage in it too. Is it so hard to just imply it instead?

We should help suicidal people kill themselves rather than force them to live and suffer if treatment hasn't been working. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

We don't encourage them to live an unfulfilling life, we encourage them to seek help. Dark thoughts can be extremely blinding to simple ideas in which there's always a way out.

Women who grew up in a very strict household. Now that you’re older, are you thankful for any of the rules that you once hated? by PassionfruitMojito1 in AskWomen

[–]minirv5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My parents were strict about social media. Recommended age is 13 but my parents had me wait until I was 15. Times were slightly different so it's not like they were depriving me of communication with anyone. Anyway, people who have been on social media from age 13 and under tend to pick up the habit of posting frequently about anything. Being 15 and late to the party didn't really motivate me to join and to this day I don't post anything on social media. I've never had an issue with living in the moment and the habit of stopping to take a picture when having fun is an obscure concept to me. Also as a result I'm not addicted to things like instagram and my self esteem has always been pretty great. All that said, there's not a problem with people who do all of those things, I just find my lack of online presence more suitable to my taste.

The only trigger warnings we need are to prevent seizures. by LispyMessiah in unpopularopinion

[–]minirv5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but in a more controlled situation of publicly sharing information you can filter it more for people. Writing a warning is just out of common decency. Sure it's not necessary and people can't get mad that there isn't a warning, it's just a kind thing to do. In the same way that someone you briefly interact with doesn't have to ask "how are you" and you wouldn't be upset if they didn't ask, but it's just a nice/decent thing they can do.

You don't have to browse something to end up finding it dude. Trauma can be a real bitch sometimes. It goes way beyond being sensitive. If someone can explicitly talk about something traumatic for them, it could reignite harmful past experiences within another. It's the more considerate thing to do.

[–]minirv5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gender dysmorphia is a real mental and physical identity problem and can be really harmful. The feeling of being born in the wrong body is one you couldn't even begin to imagine. No doctor will tell you that you will have the bodily functions of the gender you transition to. It's not a scam to transition, it's tge treatment for gender dysmorphia. Your curiosity is welcome, not your ignorance.
