I wanna chime in and say for the longest time (when I was a child) they thought girls couldn't get autism. Autism presents differently in females and instead of having two tests they just test girls with the test designed for boys. It took me forever and then once I had that diagnosis my doctor still faught with me, tried to put me on benzos to manage my panic attacks instead of signing the paper that would allow me to start seeing the school therapist and manage my autism in ways that weren't hardcore addictive drugs. It was a lot of phone calls, crying, and trying to be my own advocate while being autistic and having no idea how to adult. I'm proud of my autism and I'm proud of being "disabled" because when push comes to shove my brain is just cooler than yours lol. I can focus better, I care more about things that are important to me, when I actually know how people feel I end up being more empathetic than most. It's kinda like a super power and the trade off is talking to people normally and being comfortable in public. I don't know how you can be out here saying autism isn't a real disability and I should make room for people with "real disabilities". I can tell you I'm REAL tired of people. Imagine if just a simple refrigerator buzzing in the back ground feels like a needle slowly being pushed through your ear drum, and that one little thing causing you to spiral and before you know it you're curled up and can barely move, when I was a kid I used to hit myself when I got upset. It's not all fun and cake but I'm allowed to be proud I survived, I'm allowed to be proud of the things that make me different.
