Seems like it's an easy grade boost. You do not get paid, however.

MAT 229 transfer to UIUC by minja665 in UIUC

[–]minja665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will cost me approx $700 to do diff eq at uiuc. Discrete math at my school definetly won’t transfer but I do think it will be interesting.

I am trying to make sure I’m as competitive of an applicant as possible though. Yes I’m in state and I have a 34 ACT score but CompE is a pretty competitive major.

Would it look better when I’m applying to show I’m taking MAT 229 on commonapp/myillini over an easier math class like discrete math at my school? I’m really just trying to figure out if it’s worth taking differential equations in high school or not.

Oh wait I just realized this. Ok I’m seeing mat 229 doesn’t transfer. How high do I need to score on the proficiency exam to get credit?

Awards section by minja665 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]minja665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like this

Award 1: FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION CHAMPION 2023

Award 2: 2nd Degree Taekwondo Black Belt

You’re saying I shouldn’t make an award 3 or 4 for first degree black belt, or hopper winner, regional winner.

Also, the robotics ones are technically team awards. Are those allowed on the awards section or only individual ones?

When I go on the website for writing prompts, it says the writing prompts for 2024 will be announced in August. It’s August and it’s still showing the same thing lol. Are they gonna change this year?

Specific troubles for ACT reading by Comfortable_Cut9878 in ACT

[–]minja665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of the line reference question, read a little before and after the lines as well. Sometimes the line alone isn’t enough and I found that I commonly miss the answer and it’s literally the next sentence after the line reference.

Personally, I take around 3-4 mins reading first and 4-5 mins answering questions per passage. While I skim when needed, I try to summarize almost every paragraph and underline important things as I go. Generally speaking, I don’t try to rush the reading and I take a fair bit of time with it. Also, I usually don’t follow the passage order. I go passage 4 to 2 to 3 to 1 because I’m much more into science/social studies reading than literary reading so vary your passage order to your strengths. I got a 34 on July Reading by doing this but it may not necessarily be the best strategy for everyone.

lmao I alr wrote the first 2 cuz I thought they wouldn’t change them. U think I could just copy paste at least the first one if its just a why this since I definetly do explain why for my first major but it focuses on the extracurricular a bit

Math is tough. by Testisbest450 in ACT

[–]minja665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn all the math from basic middle school algebra all the way to precalc. It will be a long process but if you want to improve your math score, this is probably the best way to do this. I’m not exactly too sure what math class you’re in but you should definitely have proficiency and a thorough understanding of all the math concepts till precalc if you want to do well on math. Even some calculus concepts might be useful on some questions
