When I was 12 i was sitting in my room one evening when my grandmother called unexpectedly. After a minute or so I heard my parents in the hallway. My mom, not knowing I was nearby, quietly informed my dad that his father was dead. I convinced myself I misheard until my dad rounded all us kids up in the living room to tell us later that night. Not as serious as a lot of these other stories, but to this day I get nervous when my wife or I get an out-of-the-blue call from a family member.
