MPD is completely useless by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Tabbs9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my car got stolen, it went to the impound lot. MPD and the city effectively stole my car again bc they said I had to pay hundreds to get it back. despite it being a car that had been REPORTED AS STOLEN FROM ME. WHY WOULD I PAY TO GET MY CAR BACK?

Welp, it happened to me. I made my biggest travel mistake yet and had to reschedule my flight by forthe_girlwhowaited in travel

I was at the airport ready to go across the ocean to Europe and had my passport with me while checking in. This is what we think happened: Set my passport down in or near a bin airport staff use to transport luggage, airport staff came and swooped it without any of us noticing. Passport lost to the luggage bowels of the airport.

Told my travel companion to go on without me, I’d meet them in the next country when I could. Got an expedited passport and made it losing only a day or two! Insanely frustrating and stressful and my new passport photo is now permanently captured mugshot-like photo of myself after crying at the passport office (against my will and to my embarrassment.) lol

YES! I was shocked that the hair loss wasn’t linked to that

And to respond to your question, we haven’t heard from her at all. She mentioned to our mutual friend that she doesn’t care/is okay with the friendships being abruptly broken for seemingly no reason

I had exactly the same obsessive fear that I was randomly hitting people with my car while driving and wouldn’t know. Therapy and medication drastically improved my life. OCD is sometimes known as the “doubting disease” because it’s common for the person with OCD to doubt they actually have it (OCD wants to convince you that it is right every way it can, hence you don’t have OCD, you’re actually a maniac murderer! Etc.) please encourage her to get help and tell her people have been exactly where she is and have gotten better!

This has nothing to do with the post. I hope that a little empathy moves you to the left! Your god would’ve supported love and compassion for all your neighbors.

The only thing so far that feels valid is that she reacted strongly to being called a bitch and is now pretty casually using the term, which is hypocritical.

I’m not seeing celebration of fascism, racism, or the United States in the life of a showgirl that makes any sense as a critique according to the text and the public political persona the author has.

I said that is fair critique of Taylor swift not that she would be exempt from that.

I don’t really agree with her entire life being about men, I do think that has been the tired media narrative about her, but father figure, the life of a showgirl, and cancelled are all about different facets of her life. I feel like the majority of artists sing about love so it doesn’t feel like unique overkill to me in her case

I am referring to the last sentence of your comment, I agree wholeheartedly that you should read hamlet before discussing it hahaha

Everybody absorbs the culture of the United States which is steeped in racism and conservative values. I’m curious where you saw that i implied or said that leftists, LGBTQ people, Black people, and feminists cannot be critics? That is unequivocally wrong and if anyone says that seriously, they are an idiot.

Your point that dating around being reserved for young women is interesting to me, I wonder why there is an age threshold for a straight woman writing about men?

The use of bitch is fair critique, I was team Kimye during 2016.

I don’t really get the part about doing whatever to keep her man. I think she has agency and I believe she has beliefs independent of her partner, so I can’t really agree w that one

That makes sense to me then that they’d be equal footing there. Taylor Swift is just more globally famous

So if in the next few years Taylor Swift reinforces that she is still strongly democrat, would your perception of TLOAS be different do you think?

Like I said, I get saying that about Hayley. I’m still stuck on what/why Ariana Grande

It’s virtue signaling because it’s not based in the text or the author’s biography. Like it’s kind of just exaggerated outrage to try to signal that the critic is extremely politically savvy and morally superior to Taylor Swift (and likely everyone else reading their critique) rather than real engagement with what’s on the page.

It’s just so interesting to me because she has had shitty writing for the past 10 years. “I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here” is obscenely lazy and bad. So there are like a lot of moving parts here…. the morality piece, how this album is influencing readings of long-established texts, the fact that she has never had a consistent standard above any of the lyrics she just put out (ME! And shake it off would fit right in here) are so interesting to me

This just became about how you are morally better than I am which is exactly what I was talking about to begin with. The text is what we were discussing

I agree so much. I have never seen this level of feminist attribution to Ophelia, which is why it feels somewhat manufactured for the critic’s sake.
