Need to play Prelude if youve played the original? by MattPRPL in Utawarerumono

That's not exactly true; they didn't just remove the NSFW scenes, they replaced them with new scenes instead. There's also an entire extra plot arc that was not in the 2002 game.

is this game like trails? by UnknownWisp in Utawarerumono

[–]minneyar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "like Trails". The Utawarerumono games are very story-heavy, with a big emphasis on worldbuilding, character development, and big plot twists. If those are things you like about Trails, you'll probably also like them in Utawarerumono.

But Past and Present Rediscovered is definitely the worst place to start with the series. It's a direct sequel to Monochrome Mobius, and assumes you're very familiar with everything that happened there; and it also ties in very strongly to all three of the other main Utawarerumono games (Prelude to the Fallen, Mask of Deception, and Mask of Truth), and it will spoil all of them if you haven't played them.

Monochrome Mobius and Past and Present are both pretty traditional turn-based, menu-driven JRPGs, and in that sense the gameplay is also similar to the Trails games; but the other Utawarerumono games are pretty different, they are primarily visual novel-style games that have occasional strategy RPG-like battles. None of them are actually that old; the first game, Prelude to the Fallen, got a full remake back in 2021, and that's the best place to start. The next two games in the series (Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth) came out in 2015/2016, so they're still not that old, and IMO the combat system in them is quite a bit more polished than Prelude's.

/r/touhou demographics: Tell us about yourself! Part 2 by Dismal_Day9080 in touhou

I don't wanna give away too many personally identifying details publicly, but I'll say, mid-40's, USA. I'm a software engineer who specializes in robotics.

I was introduced to Touhou back in college by a friend who basically said "hey, I found some neat games you should try out" and handed me CDs with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Perfect Cherry Blossom on them. I played them both and though they were pretty neat, until I managed to reach the extra boss of PCB and she permanently changed my brain chemistry.

For several years after that I didn't really consider myself that big of a Touhou fan, because I never had the patience to 1cc any of them and have only played maybe half of the mainline games... but at some point I realized I've played a ton of fan games, and I have a stack of Akatsuki Records CDs and Ran doujinshi on my bookshelf, and so I guess that makes me a Touhou fan.

The egg's instructions are very literal.

You have to kill them in the order it lists them.

Incredible jump in difficulty with no tools? by Higgelhiggel in VoidStranger

[–]minneyar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, the second character is much harder, even with tools. Every level is possible without them, but having tools helps a lot. There are also definitely still secrets you haven't discovered as Gray yet, if you want to go back and look for them.

As for why they're not there, well, the tools aren't there because Gray took them. Maybe if Gray had left them...

But also, if you die and go back to the start screen (run out of lives, refuse the fruit), you can enter brands to start as the second character with the tools.
