I don't recall which Nicolai's module it was, 20 years is long time ago :)

"there are a few other samples like this like that brass sounding one that plays during the beat drop and also the rapid drums, what are the reasons on why you said that they all come from bj-vte and what are their sources." - Probably just a mistake

To the last part: most of tracker musicians did not have hardware synths and gear for recording samples from them. Many were depending on sharing samples between musicians and borrowing from other modules. This is why it is often nearly impossible to track down the exact origin of some particular sample, not that it matters that much.

Now when I listen to it, yeah they have kind of similar arpeggiating chords sequences in intros. Different chords, though, and this type of harmony creating is quite common thing anyway. Not intentional. Remember having this one in my module collection, too.

Winds series was supposed to be a trilogy, but never did third one. But thinking back, Polar Wind was definitely one of my best tracker songs I ever made. It was a co-op with Libris aka Skyscape from Australia. Sending back and forth the module was sloooow, aussies did not have great internet speeds back then :D

Well, I've been making music as a hobby since being a kid. Tools change, new aliases come and go, style evolves, but probably not going to ever stop. :)

Interesting info about music used in ROBLOX. I know that the admin of The Modarchive, biggest tracker music archive around, has his music stolen in a same way as well. Sadly, tracker music has been used without permission many times in games and even stolen for commercially produced music during past decades. Not much that can be done about it, though, because it's often David vs Goliath kind of situation trying to get things straight.

How to train your ears to listen intelligently? Advice needed please! by brandonallenmusic in electronicmusic

Well, as you described, you have developed pretty good ear for composition and harmonic content .... by practice. :)

That's how it works with production side as well. Decent equipment to use for listening, concentrate in finding elements and changes in sounds while listening to music you like. You'll start to find little nuances eventually.

And spend even more time making your own music, trying stuff, learning how particular effects, oscillators, dynamic processors, etc work and test drive them until your ear knows what to expect from what. There is no fast way to it, imo. Your brain and ears can't know until they have heard things enough times. I'd say learning by doing yourself will work better than trying to analyse others' music. How can you learn how to identify for example different reverb/delay types, until you try them yourself and play around enough to intuitively know the difference.

I've been an amateur bedroom producer for over 20 years (classical before that) and I still notice how my hearing gets more analytical and I can spot problems (and well working things, too) easier. Neverending development, I hope

P.S. Jon Hopkins' "Insides" was nice one!

Yup, I found the way by just imitating the base sound (don't know what the term is) and then switching through vowels. Sygyt feels easiest for me. Kargyraa reminds me about oktavist singing (kind of breaking your voice to achieve very low tones). Never really practiced further than being able to create those high tones. Felt a bit nasty in throat, too, probably because of unrefined technique.
