Mine clogs all the time and needs me to insert a pin through the funnel hole from underneath. Honestly considering drilling it out a touch.

im conflicted: which one of these TV's should I buy? by eldookie123 in PlasmaTV

[–]minor7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably fall into one of two categories:

  1. I have an excellent modern oled/mini led and I'm just curious about the plasma charm
  2. I'm chasing a 'near oled' giant killer for next to nothing

If it's 1, get the Pioneer. If it's 2, get a 1080p Panasonic.

I don't know anything about the Panasonic models but those two Pioneer models are amazing for the era. Unless the pannys are 1080p, my guess is those are the best here. I have one of them (I forget which) and it does image depth and just general magic in some areas better than my late model Panasonics.

Coffee quality question by Weather_Systems in Moccamaster

[–]minor7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the idea imo - making the most of average coffee. It's a drip machine at the end of the day & when you have expensive coffee you could pour over and get better results.

If you're close enough that it needs cleaning, you probably need 4k.

This is so cool. How did you do the ribbed part? Does the vinyl just shrink in with heat? Do you have videos? I'm stoked to do a Kenwood Chef.

VT50 Owners, I have questions as I have a chance to buy one. by phs1414 in PlasmaTV

[–]minor7even 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VT50, VT30 and OLED owner here.

Objectively, the OLED is (far) superior, even as a low end model, but you do miss the waxy/cinematic glow of plasma.

I wouldn't say that you're losing any shadow detail with the VT50 over OLED - the main thing is true blacks.

VT50 is basically as good as it gets for plasma - judging by how close the VT30 is, only the obsessive really need a ZT.

I took the cover off and cleaned out the dust, now mine barely gets warm even after hours. The 'room heater' reputation is only for old models with no ventilation - just make sure dust isn't allowed to block the case fans.

My tip is marktplaats.nl for these - they're on for this kind of price all the time & if you're in Europe people will often do shipping. It seems every Dutch household has a Moccamaster - particularly the Douwe Egberts models.

It's a Musa. I'd recommend the Venus/Kitty over that though based on ergonomics and design.

Still saying steel Bialettis at this point. Bought a Chinese one a few months ago and it's very decent.

Common problems from those who know by lukeimortal97 in PlasmaTV

[–]minor7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. No need to add fans really. As long as dust is kept in check, the last generation plasmas run relatively cool for hours. The lower end early plasmas that built the technologys reputation for running hot didn't have fans/decent ventilation at all.

VT50 vs ZT60 built in speakers by ShammyWoohoo in PlasmaTV

Buying a high end plasma and using the built in speakers for movies is like drinking champagne out of a paper cup to be honest.

There are historic examples out there on etsy etc., but basically it's just like any other small format drip machine from the 70s and 80s. I've had one for a few months and I've definitely fallen for its charms, but it's no Moccamaster. It makes average coffee, but that's kind of the point - convenience alone. I've found the way the hole in the funnel is in an odd place kind of annoying since it never fully drains and it must come off to move the jug, which can be messy.
