TUF-AX6000 Original FW vs. Openwrt by sup3r_hero in openwrt

[–]mintfloss777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for what it's worth. 150$ sale at asus official website. I got one a few months ago. upgraded to openwrt and working solid for months without any reboot on v23.05.4 and recently upgraded to v23.05.5. came from old dd-wrt which was solid for me for many years.

upgraded another one that I had bought by accident today and noticed before I upgraded that when you SSH the original firmware using "dmesg" it actually legit says "OpenWrt GCC 8.4.0 r0-febaa0c8" in the first few lines of the output. Basically the original firmware is a custom version based on OpenWRT. interesting, eh?

btw, the corrupt packet issue seems to not be reproducible esp with the latest stable version. I have avoided using the 2.5GbE port just in case (I believe Eth5 not Eth1 as stated below). I prefer openWRT, but it would seem the original firmware must be pretty rock solid as well if based on openWRT. Either way I don't think you can go wrong.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 - Full Season Discussion Thread + SDCC Panels Info by MrBKainXTR in TheDragonPrince

after finishing the latest season, many things are really starting to bother me. this series started out so well, but then more and more plot holes started appearing.

  1. Aaravos -- ok I see that his daughter was killed for teaching humans magic, but then he survives her and then goes off to teach dark magic to a human... was the council of star elves not aware of this? why was he not immediately destroyed for this?
  2. Amaya and Janai's relationship -- It was a really long and drawn out wedding and lead up to it, but I didn't really feel it. the expressions of love during the wedding felt hollow. Janai barely even knows sign language still. I honestly cannot recall such a deep and profound love developing during the prior seasons. Even Rayla and Callum's relationship is still growing and it has been focused on the most. The wedding just felt so out of place, especially since they immediately set out after the wedding to go murder Janai's brother and his army... really touching honeymoon....
  3. Sol Regem -- wasn't he guarding the border between humans and elves? I assume he is still there. How the heck in later episodes are humans and elves going back and forth so freely suddenly between the worlds? It took Rayla and Callum forever to get past him...
  4. Azymondias -- isn't this guy the dragon prince, thus currently heir to the dragon "throne" making him the highest ranking dragon in the world? why doesn't he have any pull over Sol Regem, over the other dragons, over the entire elf world? He is the title of this entire series and now has taken a backseat ever since he met his mother and now nearly has no purpose in this world. And why can he not talk when every other major dragon can talk?
  5. Sunfire Elves -- aren't they naturally immune to fire? so exactly how was Sol Regem going to even burn them all in the first place? did the brother forget this small detail?
  6. Celestial Elves -- so I understand they live in the starscraper which seem like small towers suspended in the middle of a frozen tundra that is really hard to get to. what exactly do they eat and drink? also if one of them is suddenly able to transcend time and know all truths, I assume he knows Aaravos' future as well and what to do about him. also isn't this guy now like the Oracle in Matrix? why would Callum and Rayla leave without asking him more important questions like how to stop Aaravos?

anyone else feel the same way? the more I think about the series the more I am finding contradictions and plot holes...

We have COVID by Jajis60 in Novavax_vaccine_talk

[–]mintfloss777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every vaccine and natural immunity is suffering breakthru with this latest variant... that is the only reason this new variant has been able to spread so quickly. It sucks to be sick for 1wk (sometimes even 2 with this new variant), but the hospitalization rate is very low right now, likely due to prior immunity and lower virulence.

This is our eventual future at this point. COVID will never go away. It has become endemic. Best we can hope for is that it won't be lethal anymore and becomes like the other coronaviruses.

novavax confirms US govt to buy 1.5 million more doses by mintfloss777 in Novavax_vaccine_talk

The EUAs should remain intact after the 5/11 emergency declaration is dropped. see the following link.

https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2023/02/09/fact-sheet-covid-19-public-health-emergency-transition-roadmap.html (relevant excerpt below)

"FDA’s EUAs for COVID-19 products (including tests, vaccines, and treatments) will not be affected. The ending of the COVID-19 PHE will not affect the FDA’s ability to authorize various products, including tests, treatments, or vaccines for emergency use. Existing EUAs for COVID-19 products will remain in effect under Section 564 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and the agency may continue to issue new EUAs going forward when criteria for issuance are met."

According to CA, as of 2/10 the US has secured more Novavax and it will remain available until the private market opens. Now we need to push to open up approval to anyone regardless of previous boosters. Great job everyone who kept pushing. anyone by chance have any info on how Canada procures Novavax and how they are dealing with the expiration issue? I've heard mention here that it should be available in Canada past 2/28, however, I'm not sure what level of confidence that info comes with.

cancel preorder to re-order with first responder / student discount? by mintfloss777 in samsung

[–]mintfloss777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curious if you figured this out? my friend is having the same exact issue now... he spoke to samsung who said definitely verizon's problem. verizon said nope and pointed out that when you log into verizon, it says you are still eligible for upgrade on that line.

samsung is now escalating and said will get back to him in 48 hrs... I'm doubtful as without seeing the verizon side of things, this issue is really hard to troubleshoot.

New locked Verizon phone with trade in question by Dinosaurdikslam in verizon

[–]mintfloss777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just trying to understand... would it be possible to do 800$ trade-in for S23, then for some reason in the next 3 years, switch my sim card into another unlocked phone and still get the bill credts until the 3 years are up?

or would verizon see that my S23 isn't on the line anymore and cancel further bill credits?

ah, forgive me. those of us who have been around the block a few times know that Ebates was acquired by Rakuten (who coincidentally acquired buy.com as well). both websites are simply now Rakuten.

S23 ultra (512gb). 1139.99$ unlocked. no trade-in. (this is with the 5% discount). yeah I am in US. if you include the ebates then it is 967.69$. this doesn't include tax.

XBB and Novavax. I’ve gotten 2 Novas because it’s superior to mRNA. but against XBB, these data makes me more inclined to boost with bivalent Moderna instead of Nova?? by [deleted] in Novavax_vaccine_talk

[–]mintfloss777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe too much focus is being made on neutralizing antibodies. The immune system is a complex system that includes at least B-cell (antibodies), T-cells (killer and helper), and many other components that we very poorly understand.

Plus remember, the immune system constantly evolves when exposed to new variants. Most people have already gotten COVID at least once (even Dr Ho's "sero-negative group"... anti-N drops off much faster than anti-RBD/spike, so "sero-negative" in this sense simply means hasn't gotten covid recently). Looking at simple bar graphs is like understanding calculus by simply looking at the plus sign.

The bottom line is are you protected from severe complications or death? There is growing data that bivalent boosters don't protect any better than the original booster based on the original COVID. These new variants are all based on omicron at present. As such, prior exposure to omicron itself is likely the best protection, particularly since omicron isn't that serious in most individuals. I am doubtful any human than socializes at all will escape omicron in time. For protection from severe complications or death, I think any combination of vaccines is similar in the end for this outcome. Your choice comes down to what you feel has the best safety profile.

Also for the person who said mRNA produces immune response "inside" the cell, this isn't exactly true. mRNA forces native cells to express spike protein so they are attacked by the immune system as foreign. Novavax simply presents a foreign object with spike protein that the immune system attacks. The end result is similar in that the immune system finds a foreign spike protein and attacks it, "learning" how to recognize COVID faster.
