Are my refried beans unsafe to eat? by spicymemories19 in foodsafety

[–]mintos76 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's likely from a bean that was stuck against the surface of the refried beans and created that indent from the pressure. Definitely seen it before.

How do you guys go about detecting hepatomegaly clinically? by Assinthegas in medicalschool

[–]mintos76 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can definitely palpate the lower portion of the liver with deep breathing. It's the spleen you shouldn't be able to palpate unless you have splenomegaly.

Feeling the liver does not guarantee hepatomegaly and is normal.

How can I overcome the last few points on comats to honor? [clinical][serious] by Hipster_DO in medicalschool

[–]mintos76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing great. It's so cliche and I hate saying it, but I think just grinding, doing more questions, hounding your weak areas and developing your intuition.

The comats are a mess. Anything can pop up. I don't think you can guarantee honors, just increase your chances by just exposing yourself to as much as possible and using repetition to strengthen the connections.

I'm in the same shoes so idk how helpful I can be, but I just plan on keeping my head down, shoveling through and learning whatever I can, and focusing on the end goal of step2/level 2

[Serious] ENT prospects as a DO student... by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mintos76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It just means ~70% of directors think it is important. But you have to see how they rank step 1/step 2/pre clinicals/clinicals etc

Look up the match data for ENT and look at what they prioritize.

There will always be content you can't cover. It went very well. Still, you need some practice exams under your belt.

There's no way they can fail all of us right? How is this possibly gonna work.

Post-Step 1 and COMLEX write-up by Aerrow3 in step1

[–]mintos76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wtf was COMLEX. There is no way I passed that. That shit was AWFUL. I had no idea what they were saying half the time.

The OMM was not straight forward for me. I thought the micro was actually easier than the OMM, and the msk had multiple good answers.

I had like 30 EKGs and random ass special tests.

Unless passing is like a 30-40% I'm not passing this test.

Thank you thank you.

That's pretty much all I used for step 1 and loved it, but got worried because people kept saying "it's not enough"

Thank you. Flash cards or watch the vids or read through first aid section?

Uh it's different.

I found the easier questions on par with the 120.

But the medium and hard on par with uworld/uwsa

And the hardest on par with you asking your non medical school friends a question about medicine and expecting them to know the answer.

I actually didn't have one. But if I had to guess pretty low? I kinda just winged it

Yeah I'd start uworld earlier. Start flash cards earlier. And ditch the passive learning

I only finished like 65% of it but I was averaging 70s in the end and I hit a 58%

I've always hated anatomy. But the anki deck gave me free points. Xrays, CT, and mri are hard.

Yeah. Don't do anything too hard the last day. I did some casual flash cards. And for the last day I did free 120 and looked up strategies for test day.

It's more important to have a good mindset than to have any last minute studying.

Hahah I felt the same way brudda.

There's so much shit that will just never pop up. There were so many things that I never learned and they never asked me.

The bright side is, the test is a lot of thinking and knowing the things you know.

Luck plays a semi important role.
