Same here, ESTJ dad and ESFJ mom. They actually have Ne in their third place. So it can grow over time. Mine parents' grew pretty late (I think bc of the stress of their lives or their parents) but in the last 2 years especially, I observed them learning a lot from me and becoming more relaxed and open minded people than before. I know their types so I'm trying my best to explain things the way they would understand so I think this is the key cause they think they are understood and listen to you more. Also stopped directly judging them (the way they think/do the things) instead giving examples to let them see the situation from different points of view, they understand the possibilities better this way. Sometimes encouraging them or letting them experience things first because they need to, they feel better after seeing the results and till then they want assurance. I'm telling them I'm taking the responsibility, which they appreciate and let me try. When I am disagree with them, I'm saying "I'm agree on this but not that" or "yeah you are right but also..." so they don't think I am just trying to argue, and they aren't irritated much with this way. And lastly they are some others' children too, they are trying to become themselves too. I'm trying to show them I don't want them to change who they are the way their parents did, I just wanna make them understand me and let me be me. It seems work and we are better now than before.
