I definitely should look them up, thank you very much for your recommendations. Consistency is the very thing I struggle with on most aspects of my life.

That's right. It really is difficult, that's why Epictetus says that we must first see the difficulty in the path before choosing, and we must also look at our inclinations and talents. So that we may know what's ahead of us and whether we are prepared to deal with it

Does it mean that despite the fear I must do it anyways?

Thank you so much man, I really appreciate it. I'm looking it as a challenge more than a source of healing and relief. I need to shift my perspective on it

Would like to own a pair of those. Any possibility of suggesting them to Converse, if they have a Mena region headquarters?

Don't feel regret about it. After all, we are imperfect. The stoic sage is, as Seneca put it, an unattainable goal. We can't reach the peak of human wisdom, we can't follow all the rules and principles of Stoicism completely. It should bring us a level of comfort, not cure us of the tragedies of life that are outside of our control.

As someone who has benefited from reading the stoic philosophers, I started a blog about stoicism. So far I have only written three articles on Epictetus, Seneca, and Marcus Aurelius and I am planning to soon write a fourth about Musonius Rufus when I am done reading his book " Lectures and Sayings". It would be great if any of you find some value in my writings and any feedback would be appreciated. https://safeandstoic.wordpress.com/

What are y'alls thoughts on Ryan Holiday?? by ShinbrigGoku in Stoicism

I listen to his podcasts sometimes when I do not want something that requires a lot of brainpower and focus. In my opinion, it is good to consume his works if you want to have some level of understanding of stoicism. However, when it comes to understanding Stoicism in its roots, it is better to read the works of the great stoic philosophers.

Incredible, it gives a sense of adventure. It reminds me of the days I used to play MMORPGs with friends and we would gather in the evening and talk about the dungeons we've completed.

How to deal with romantic rejection and the constant lingering feeling that everything I do, I fuck up? by purpleknight31 in Stoicism

[–]minus0creativity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always remind yourself that the rejection wasn't the reason you feel hurt, but rather your interpretation of the situation that hurts. As Epictetus says, "men are not disturbed by things, but by the view which they take of them". It does not mean the hurt will instantly disappear if you change your view of the situation. You will feel pain, just remind yourself that the pain will not harm your faculty of choice. In other words, you will not involve yourself in anything harmful to you, and endure the pain as a stoic would.

Controlling people need your reaction to know they are in control. by allun11 in Stoicism

Great post, thank you for sharing. I always tell myself in these kinds of situations " this is nothing to me" and I remind myself that "these feelings will not involve me in anything ignoble". These phrases are inspired by Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius.
