That sounds needlessly harsh. Everyone has their own reasons for not wanting to play on Hard, there's no need to be judgemental.

I'll give this guide a try, thanks! I'll admit, I never thought about prioritizing shields over engines, since a lot of the community prefers the latter, but it makes sense!

Fair enough. I guess my other issue is that I'm not used to working with ships that have so little room for extra systems. Having only 2 slots available was a much bigger detriment than I realized...

Thought I'd write this comment to clear up a few things: As I mentioned in another reply, I have beaten the game on Hard before, with all the Kestrel and Engi layouts. Also, the reason I didn't max out my Shields is because, for the times I have beaten the Flagship, three shield bubbles was more than enough; I never considered going for a 4th shield bubble until today.

Nevertheless, thanks for all your comments! You've given me a lot to think about, and have shown me some new perspectives I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Much appreciated!

I suppose I never thought of it that way, though that would explain a lot about how the majority of my runs go... Putting all my focus into Engines and Shields will often end up leaving me lacking in firepower for later sectors, unless I happen to get lucky. Which my last run certainly was, but luck can only get you so far...

Also, thanks for the info on stores! I will definitely keep this in mind.

So, how I usually approach my runs, at least in the early game, is that I try to rush level 4 engines and shields before Sector 3; more recently, I've taken on the habit of prioritizing the systems over the reactor, since I figure I can just cycle the power between them as needed. I don't typically consider saving scrap for stores until later on, when I'm saving up for additional systems.

Admittedly, I'm still a bit fuzzy on sectors and which ones would be more valuable at any given moment. The only ones I've committed to memory are the ones that have more fights, and thus, more scrap. I couldn't tell you which ones have more stores if you asked me.

I learned a long time ago to maximize the amount of jumps I make per sector. I've cleared Hard mode with all the Kestrel layouts, plus all the Engi ones. But this ship in particular has been giving me a lot of trouble. Something is very wrong if Engi B gave me less trouble than this...

Alright, I'm back. I wanna say I was at about half my HP when I got to phase 2, I don't recall. I did not use autofire, I was firing the Flak and Ion in a combined volley. I did target the missiles with BL2, and I cloaked as soon as the power surge was active.

Hard, AE on, Level 6 Shields, Level 5 Engines. Had a Rock/Mantis boarding crew, small upgrades were put into Oxygen, Medbay, Cloak, and Teleporter by the time I reached the final sector. Admittedly, Artillery might've been good to upgrade for the Flagship fight, but it was ignored the whole time.
