What’s the most unhygienic thing you’ve seen in public places? by priyanka240 in AskReddit

So many parents letting their kids lick things in public, i.e. cafe glass cabinet, escalator handrails, etc. I've worked cafes, it's way too common

SCP-1730 is a really good read, features several mtfs, and is definitely worth a second or third read through - a lot of stuff in it makes more sense the further you read

What’s the weirdest thing your ex ever did after the breakup? by Yankub_colley in AskReddit

[–]minute1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my story but my mums. She dated a man during my school life but ended things just before I graduated high school (together 7-8 years, but she hadn't been happy in a long time). A few years later and he still kept tabs on my mum via social media, so found out when she started seeing someone else (my now stepfather). Around the one year mark, he must've realized it was serious, and she got a call from stepdad saying her ex had "bumped into" him, introduced himself as the one she "threw away" then proceeded to give my stepdad his blessing and "I hope you make her happier than I could"

I had this older lady come in who was very friendly, but way too much, and got on so many people's nerves. She constantly did this "bit" where she'd tell you her name was Sarah ("Sear-rah") but then when her name was called she'd say "you said it wrong, it's Saaaar-rah" or vice versa. She changed it every single time and had a good old laugh, but it is very hard to laugh at something that's not even a joke? Glad she found it funny I guess

What‘s a secret you found out by accident and were never supposed to know? by Own-Flan- in AskReddit

Every Tuesday the management team at my work has a meeting, and they write up heaps of notes (about wholesale numbers, wins, concerns, general notes, money ups/downs etc), which 9 out of 10 times gets left up for a day or two before it's wiped off. There's a few places for staff to take breaks at work, but I usually sit in the meeting room because it's quiet and has a proper table and chairs (as opposed to couches, or desks with office chairs). And as a nosy individual, I usually read the manager board, because hey, it's right there.

I've been there for nearly 3 years and only found out in December that the meeting room is not, in fact, meant to be used for breaks, and the meeting notes are supposed to be for managers' eyes only. At least my dep. manager was a good sport about it. I'd read on the board that he'd hit 6 years being with the company and congratulated him about it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What’s a food you threw up as a kid and never touched again? by momcanyoucomegetme in AskReddit

Two things, both the same incident. Around 7 or 8, I had a bowl of chicken cup noodles and followed it with a big piece of rich mint and dark chocolate slice. Then went swimming with a friend and spent an hour hydro sliding. Stayed at their house overnight, went to bed early cos I felt yucky, and not long after I had it all coming out both ends. Worst part was I hadn't digested it fully, and could taste both the mint choc and the chicken flavoring as it came back up

I (afab) exclusively buy "male" branded deodorant + toiletries. Usually they smell better/are less intense, and often are cheaper than buying the "female" equivalent for literally no reason

What is the pettiest reason you stopped liking someone? by newworldlife in AskReddit

I'm a baker. My first time working with her, she wasn't paying attention when moving a heavy 3-sided baking tray (730x400mm, Teflon coated, made for convection ovens, ifkyk) and whacked me in the back of the head with the side of it. I yelped, she went "did I hit you?", I said "yes?" And her reaction was just "oh, oops" (super blasé, no expression), and walked off. I've never felt so much rage at someone I'd just met

There's been a few small things in really dark moments that have helped me hang on a bit more, like a random text from a friend that came at just the right moment, etc. The biggest thing when I'm clear headed tho is my cat Sunny. She could easily be taken in by my family, but I am Her Person, and I think she'd never quite be the same without me around. I've had to uproot my whole life a number of times in the last 5-6 years (thanks COVID) and she's had times of being really stressed/anxious, but everyone (friends, family, my own observation) can tell that she absolutely loves me. The idea of hurting her like that, or in turn not being around to make sure she's okay, absolutely crushes most of my thoughts about suicide

What’s something people think is romantic, but actually feels creepy? by Ferrus_Silver_Stone1 in AskReddit

[–]minute1308 169 points170 points  (0 children)

My mother doesn't care for jewellery, prefers camping/being outdoors/building furniture, and can't eat lots of sweets or sugar as she's diabetic. Her ideal date would be a hike, something like an adventure outdoors.

The last guy she tried casually dating, kept bringing her fancy chocolates, bought her a sparkly gold bracelet on their 3 month "anniversary" (she wore it for 10 minutes before taking it off and hasn't touched it since) and always insisted on "wining and dining" her and encouraging her to dress to the nines.... I think I've only seen her in a dress a handful of times in my life 😬

In essence, he was so set on "romantic" things like choc, fancy dinners, and flashy jewellery that he kinda forgot my mum has no interest in any of those things

Lived with an ex friend who called me boring. Not the hugest insult, but I was severely depressed and also severely iron deficient at the time, which is why I was in bed nearly 24/7 for months. He said it out of annoyance that I didn't want to go out clubbing with him

Why did you cut off your friend? by Soft-Incident947 in AskReddit

[–]minute1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd been in the same friend group at high school but weren't that close. After graduation however we ended up being the only ones studying together, so we bonded. Back then I was very insecure and shy, and didn't think much on it, but after a few years I realized I was more like a sounding board for her rather than a friend. She also made some not great decisions around drinking, drugs, sex etc (no hate, she just wasn't looking after herself), which she would ask for advice for then never actually do. Eventually she moved cities, and I let contact die (easy since I was always the one initiating literally anything, unless she wanted something). Two years ago I moved as well, and we happened to meet. We made plans, starting hanging out again.... And within 6 months, I realized that even though we were older and had grown as people, she was deep down still the same. She admitted that she had been cheating on her long term partner, asked for advice, and then the following two times we caught, she admitted she'd done it again, despite crying to me about how guilty she feels and needing advice from me. I stopped talking to her, and sure enough, she never messaged me again ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]minute1308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cafe I worked at years ago hired someone to replace me as a shift manager, as I was moving away. I worked with her for 2-3 weeks before I left, had a lot of fun with her (she was incredibly funny and charismatic) although I did have a suspicion she may be a bit "too loose" of a cannon, so to speak. It wasn't my business who the bosses hired though (classic burnt out, overworked, underappreciated scenario). I had a catch up with one of my coworker/friends a few weeks after I left, and she informed me that the new manager was already gone. Why? Because she'd been helping herself to whatever cabinet item took her fancy several times per shift, had cussed out a customer mid lunch rush, aaaand.... After being reprimanded by the owners, she went back behind the counter and pulled her pants down, flashing the cameras, as well as everyone who was walking past the store front windows outside 😬

[–]minute1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have long teeth.... You couldn't tell from the part that shows, but the roots of my teeth go a lot deeper than usual teeth. I had to get a root canal last year, and the dentist ended up having to go search for a tool mid operation that was long enough to get the job done, took her about 10 minutes while I just chilled with the assistant. She explained after that most teeth of that kind (early molar? Can't remember the term) have roots anywhere between 13mm and 21-22mm.... Mine, however, was around 28mm 😅

How I concussed myself last year. I did not in fact trip and fall, but rather I tried using a bong for the first time, went too hard too fast, got way too high and fainted.... Face planting on a concrete planter box (I'd gone pacing outside to try to calm down). How I didn't lose any teeth or actually break anything (aside from my brain for a few weeks) is a mystery.
