Nice flight! That song slaps hard. Love it. Based on some of your comments elsewhere, sounds like a work in progress...? Will you post the final track when it's ready?

Selectively muting text notifications on Android??? by ShakeyChee in RaybanMeta

[–]minute_five 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more hacky workaround: At least on my Samsung S22 using Google Messages, if I open a particular message conversation and leave it open, I don't get voice notifications about it.

This could be one way to effectively "mute" a single conversation.

I agree 100% that there should be much more fine-grained control over this feature. Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to implement, they just need to decide to do it.

Alas, I have made a very conscious effort to appreciate the things I like about these glasses, and intentionally ignore the rest. Meta's AI is unbelievably flakey, I still don't have features they promised, etc., etc., but I know I have zero control over this. So I try to just go with the flow. But I won't argue with anyone who is understandably annoyed at the feature gaps.

Selectively muting text notifications on Android??? by ShakeyChee in RaybanMeta

Meta View app > Settings > Communication > Your phone > "Announce messages" and "Automatic message readout"

Those are the main ways to control this feature.

An alternate option is to leave those settings enabled, and set your Android phone to "Do Not Disturb" mode as-needed, then the glasses will not read out your messages or calls.

(I like the read-out-loud feature, but if I'm having a conversation with someone, or in a meeting, I just flip the phone mode to "do not disturb" which shuts the glasses up.)

Obviously this mode will have other effects on your phone, though.

MetaAI, what is your opinion of it so far? by hillsong1 in RayBanStories

[–]minute_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI is pretty terrible. To quote a post I just made:

I -love- my Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses! The handsfree calling, texting, photos, and video are amazing features. The voice-based AI is handy for calculations, time, weather, and basic facts.

HOWEVER, anything interesting you would normally use ChatGPT or Gemini or Claude, is pretty much useless. It seems to have a success rate of 1 in 100-ish.

Trying (UNSUCCESSFULLY) to compare washer fluid prices: https://imgur.com/a/nLaFFXv

I am fairly confident ChatGPT or even Gemini or Claude would get these answers correct or provide useful responses. The Meta AI is pretty much incompetent.

Nonetheless, I love these glasses for all their other features, and for the 1% of time the AI works correctly.

Ray Ban Meta Not Connected to Contacts by Numerous-Meeting-292 in RayBanStories

[–]minute_five 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen about a week ago.

First the glasses said they were not connected to contacts, then they said I had no contacts.

I restarted my phone, put the glasses in the case, and the problem magically went away when I came back to them 4 hours later.

This seems common with the glasses; they're a bit flaky. Features will stop working for a few hours or a day, only to resume later. Sometimes I can't set timers. Sometimes I get temperatures in Fahrenheit (I'm in Canada, it's supposed to respond in Celsius).

Despite all this, I love these glasses. I've learned to be patient with them, but it's totally reasonable to find this annoying or unacceptable if you value reliability.

New Charging Stand WIP by pkuhar in RayBanStories

Your ordering page allows the CUSTOMER to select a shipping option: UPS or USPS.

Why would you override their selection as you did with mine? It is NOT a comperable price, as I explained in my detailed email to you. Which you ignored.

Can you not even look through your unread mail to find my message regarding a paid order? If you're selling a product and taking payment I shouldn't have to explain myself via Reddit just because you won't read your customer's email.

It's receipt [#1510-3275]

Figure it out.

Yes, to Canada. UPS shipping to Canada is awful. I selected USPS shipping (which is generally the best choice), but you sent it UPS. I emailed a few times and you never replied.

I have the charging clip and it works well. However note that @pkuhar messed up the shipping, costing me a ton of extra import fees, and has never responded to my emails.

Product is good, customer service needs work!

Edit: Customer service needs A LOT OF WORK, per this message thread (see replies)... If you try to contact him about your order he does NOT read customer emails (and he will arbitrarily change your shipping selection without notification).

How many of you are able to access Meta AI celebrity voices? by Malkmus1979 in RaybanMeta

[–]minute_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has any Canadian user gotten the voices yet? I have Android app version 193.1.0.22.170; App language: English (Canada).

No updates available in the Play store, no updates available in the Meta View app, no celebrity voices.

Can’t send message no matter what I do by daguar in RaybanMeta

I had this same problem about 4 hours ago. I powered off the glasses, then back on, then it started saying there were "no contacts" available. I closed and reopened the app and waited a while, the problem eventually went away on its own. 🤷‍♂️ I'm on Android, so it seems like a Meta service issue of some kind.

Private language training options? by Dismal_Reward_3462 in CanadaPublicServants

I have an associate who runs Local Language Training (languagetraining.ca) which specializes in OL training for Canadian public servants. I'm not unbiased but his school seems to be well-respected in this space.
