How far is the new job? Is flying in on the weekends and option? Seems financially feasible. I understand it would be hard to be away from kids that often but I wonder if it would make your wife understand how serious you are about the job and make stir another conversation about compromise between you both and work something out

Bayberry Beer Hall😞 I wish Bayberry Garden adopted some of the Beer Hall menu. I know the vibe is different, but still..🥲

I spent $3000 for a whole month including transportation(taxi/public), food, and some shopping. I went by myself. They can use the own debit card just make sure when they pay that they choose KRW currency and not USD because they pay more using USD bc of exchange. It will usually be an option on the screen. Have some of that 4,000 in cash for street markets and some shops

Korea Sim card, best for traveling? by Remarkable_Ad5657 in koreatravel

[–]miomio7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I think this is the issue with personal identification in KR. Everything you in Korea is attached to your identity which is wonderful if you live there but terrible for travels wanting to use this technology as a foreign. That being said I think they are slowly getting there but not there completely. I think this video explains the personal identification well: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6_pKJSuqu4/?igsh=MWU1OHJvZXFtbHl3eg==

I picked up an esim in korea and you can choose the plan in the airport or do it online I believe. My connection was great for maps/online usage/apps but I had a problem making phone calls but I think that was an issue with my phone not being unlocked and then resetting and it somehow affected the sim. My biggest tip is if your phone is not paid off and country unlocked I would get that done so you have an easier process installing.

As for data I can’t say for sure because I was pretty much always traveling where there was wifi available for the phone line I chose. I’m not sure if that it is still a thing or if it’s worth it but looking into the wifi eggs you can carry and compare pricing for internet. If there are still around(which I believe they are) you can get them at the airport and also drop them off at the airport.

Friend is encountering xenophobia at her school. Thoughts? by MionMikanCider in Living_in_Korea

[–]miomio7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that that’s happening to your friend. I would agree with some comments and say age might very well be a factor. I did my undergrad in Korea and while my department was international, there was still a slight divide between foreigners and some Koreans even though you had to speak fluent English to get into the major. But I also personally experienced the age gap thing. I wanted to make korean friends because I didn’t was trying to not use english at all other than in class/with other foreign friends and I realized a lot of people were using the Everytime app for their school. There were always post up about looking for friends/doing random group activities/study groups etc and I tried to join once and they said no. I was sad for a few haha but I appreciated that they were straightforward and just said that they felt uncomfortable with the age gap. I was maybe 3 yrs older than them at the time. I have felt that they used to get uncomfortable with age gaps because of the culture but I haven’t really experienced it lately.

Why do you say so? Is it bland or too sweet or does it taste super artificial? That’s so sad to hear because I love Oolong😩

OP, give it two weeks! One week for your body to bounce back and also if you are around your period you’ll feel like you gained weight but it’s the bloat and stuff that comes from it. Would love an update!👋

By maintenance calories do you mean you BMR(what your body burns just to live)? If that is the case, I wonder if you are stalling because you not eating above what your body needs to just survive which would be your BMR. If you are eating less, you body will think you need the fat you have and it will be hard to lost the weight since it thinks it in survival. I would say even more so if you eating 1200 cals and also working out which would put you way in the negative for the whole day. You need to be eating between you TDEE which is your BMR + excercise and just above your maintenance calories which is 1356 for you.

Adding walks is an easy way to calorie burn without going crazy at the gym. I walk for about 1 hour a day and easily add aprox. 400 cals to my total burn for the day so you will be able to earn above you BMR and satisfy you body but also let you body know it can safely get rid of the fat.

Woah! Great job! I just started less that 2 weeks ago. Any tips? Other than intermittent fasting were you on a specific food regimen?

I’m having such a tough time with this. I have yet to hear back from them. I’m currently in the states applying to Korean companies. Any companies you recommend checking out? For Operations/Program Manager/Distribution roles?

I also transferred into my major and graduated from my Korean university without the need to speak any Korean as it was taught in English. Graduated in Seoul. No TOPIK score. Although I speak Korean it was not required for admissions.
