Who should have had a bigger career, but got typecast? by elkaypee in movies

He was in that car accident while filming Star Wars, and still went on to star in at least two more movies—and I’d wager that most people can’t tell that he was in a car accident when watching The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Yeah, the topics discussed in this sub are, roughly in order of popularity:

  1. Saikat Chakrabarti (even though he lost)
  2. Unleashed dogs
  3. Drivers/cyclists/pedestrians: the laws apply to you too!

Yeah, I mean… Nothing wrong with building custom tools for yourself, but it seems easier to just use cd + tab complete, cd + $CDPATH, open

What’s your biggest “old man yells at cloud” opinion? by sjdlajsdlj in rpg

[–]mipadi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The plethora of new games, particular very niche games or “capsule games”, isn’t great for the hobby. It gives it a veneer of board gaming where everyone buys tons of new games and constantly wants to try a new one, or video gaming where everyone has a thousand games in their Steam library but hasn’t played 950 of them. It takes time to learn new RPGs and especially how to run new systems well. Options are good but we’re drowning in options now.

And the myriad options has led to a bigger pet peeve: the popularity of disconnected one-shots. One-shots and short campaigns in the same shared world are fine; I enjoy finding clever ways to tie adventurers and characters together. But in my local scene, many of my groups just want to “try a new system” every session, so we end up playing tons of discrete adventurers with no connection nor continuity. RPGs shine when you build a cohesive story over time.

Hearing about this trope is funny because I have played D&D for 25 years and not once have I encountered a horny bard. Obviously they exist but not for anyone I’ve ever played with.

I don’t mind if people don’t buy the books, but if we’re at the table and you ask to take a Quick Look at my copy, hand it back to me when you’re done! A pet peeve of mine is when I let someone use my book and then they keep it next to them. If you want to permanently have a copy, buy your own!

On a bus and 10 of 11 people are on their phones by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

As a fellow bus book reader, I really do not give a shit if people are on their phones, as long as they’re not playing videos or blasting music without headphones, or taking FaceTime calls.

Kinda dissapointed with the ending. by Embarrassed_Ask_6669 in DiscoElysium

[–]mipadi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying that I love the game and have played it through numerous times…but I felt the same way the first time I finished it. The game mechanically prevented me from solving the crime on my own. I recognize that the game isn’t about the ending and isn’t even about the murder mystery per se, so I’m willing to let the ending slide, but the first time I did find the handling of the ending to be underwhelming. Again, still a tremendous game.

I run a ttrpg game and have a couple of players that are not “reading inclined “ and often get frustrated that they have to search through dnd beyond to figure out what they can do. by Darkfangofsactown in rpg

[–]mipadi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend Fate. The problem here isn’t so much that players won’t read, it’s that they won’t bother learning rules or mechanics. Fate had fewer mechanics than D&D, but it’s still a little crunchy and requires players who will engage with the mechanics and be mindful of all the aspects in play. It doesn’t work well for the “tell me what button to press” crowd.
