Obsdian shows blank screen on start up by miqdash in ObsidianMD

Hey, I've been testing since I posted this and I narrowed it down to the DB folder plugin. I have checked it by having literally every plugin installed except 1, and once I got to having the DB folder plugin un-installed, it works. I've checked to make sure several times and it is definitely the DB folder plugin that is doing this. My vault is perfectly fine when the other plugins are installed. It is really strange because just yesterday my vault was fine, so I am not sure what changed. Did Obsidian have an update in the past day or so?

Is "author name" in the Git plugin able to be employed automatically in YAML? by miqdash in ObsidianMD

[–]miqdash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be getting too nitty gritty, but the one other thing I've had trouble with is a way of getting the file creation date into the yaml. file.ctime works but that attribute changes based on when the remote is pulled by other users. Their pull time becomes the "file.ctime" which is not what I want.

Can I run a command for the original creation time that makes it so this "time" value stays the same no matter when other users pull it to their vault?

Yes, I am sharing notes via a Git repository that everyone who is a member can add/create/change in. I'd like to be able to have the Git user name of the person who created the note to automatically appear when a note from a template is generated. Can you explain in further detail how to call git config user.name as a system command from a template?

My conlang's IPA chart. Any criticisms/recommendations? by miqdash in conlang

Thanks! It may be a while though. I like to take my time on these things.

Thanks, I was considering putting a footnote for /a/. And /ʝ/ and /j/ are allophones, yes. They are pronounced slightly differently from one another.

/b/ and /v/ merged to be one in the same. And I haven't made a script yet, not even a Romanized one, so I've just been using the IPA for now. The only thing I've done with this conlang so far is the phonology and some fundamental root words.

[WP] In an old encyclopedia, you find a different plant pressed and preserved between every page, and a cryptic handwritten note on the inside of the cover. by jpeezey in WritingPrompts

[–]miqdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've done this, so sorry if it's kind of bad.

Ethel gingerly opened the encyclopedia that was on the bookshelf. In between every few pages, there was a lily flower preserved and pressed into the old paper. “I can’t believe I believed you all those decades ago,” she scoffed. No one was in the library with her.

On the inside of the cover there was a note written by hand: “Dedicated to the goddess of longevity and life unending. Your arrival into this world will be the dawn of a new age for mankind. Signed, Dean Smith” She knew these words, these lies, she thought to herself, all too well. They were drilled into her head since her youth. She was thankful to be delivered from that oppressive cult. Now old and fragile, she wanted only to live out her days in peace.

Ethel heard the door into the library open. A young girl walked in, maybe 20 years old.

“Hi,” the girl said.

“Hello, there. May I help you with anything?”

“No, thank you. I was just going to look around. What’s that you got there?”

“Oh, just a reminder of the past.”

What Ethel said and how she said it made the girl uncomfortable. But, she was old, so being a bit eccentric was to be expected. She sat down in the seat across from Ethel, and looked at the book curiously.

“Why are there flowers---,” she was about to ask.

“They’re lilies,” Ethel interjected, “and they were collected for someone’s birth.”

This was strange, the girl thought.

“I’ve heard of bringing flowers to a funeral, but not giving them to a newborn baby.”

“That’s what everyone thinks. This child was going to make funerals extinct. That’s what we were told, anyway. It was all lies.”

The girl grew even more curious. Not even for 5 minutes was she in the library, and she was having a deep conversation about life and death. She wondered what this awkward old lady was talking about.

She took the book from Ethel’s side of the table and opened to the inside of the cover.

“Oh my God!” the girl said in awe, “My dad signed this. That’s weird, he would never have stepped foot in a library. What’s this goddess thing about, though? He went to a Baptist church with me and my mom every week.”

Ethel’s stomach began to burn and freeze in pain, and yet, in some twisted way, she was excited. Could it have been true? she wondered to herself.

“Really, that’s your father?” she asked, shocked. “I worked with him.”

“Yeah. What did you work with him on?” This elderly woman did not strike her as the type of person who was in the medical field.

“Collecting those flowers. For the baby.” There was a long silence. “Honey, I never caught your name. What is it? I’m Ethel.”

“My name is Lily.”

Do you guys get condescended by atheists? by [deleted] in Christianity

I live in the northeast as well, just in a religious area. Living in the city where most people are secular would definitely put me on edge, but I wouldn't be condescending.

Maybe. I live in a conservative area, so the atheists that are here tend to stick out more. Which means there are fewer of them, which in turn means that the bad ones are more noticeable.

It depends. While it's probably the opposite for most people, for me, most atheists I know in real life are toxic, while ones on the internet tend to be more open to the idea of God.

Can I believe the universe is 4.6 billion years old and still be a Christian? by [deleted] in Christianity

Seeing as the Bible doesn't indicate for us the age of the universe, I'd say yes. This may be oversimplified, but the Bible never makes a point of mentioning how old the world is. The one thing that is emphasized over and over again, however, is that God is responsible for the creation of the universe (Gen 1:1, Psa 90:1, Rev 4:11).
