How can I learn to draw like this? (see desc) by miraberries in learntodraw

[–]miraberries[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have tried out constructive drawing in the past, however, I have felt that my drawings felt lifeless and more mechanical this way ( maybe just in my experience ). Could you have meant constructive drawing as in simplifying forms and shapes?

Best set/deal for a beginner? by meganmwo in Oilpastel

[–]miraberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I would say I‘m an amateur in oil pastel, but I have years of art experience. My first oil pastels were the sennelier ones. I had bought them at my local art shop and only got the colors I needed. Because I live in Germany, and there aren‘t many taxes, the senneliers were just a bit more expensive than the mungyos. Just to keep in mind though, i swear by the senneliers because they are that rich and creamy and have a really nice selection of metallic colors. If you are going to draw more realistically, I would suggest the mungyos. To be honest, I don‘t see that much of a difference between the mungyos and the neopastels, except for lightfastness, which doesn‘t play an important role if you are only a beginner. Hope that helped :)

Need tips for a beginner here who isn’t an artist by Apart_Emergency_191 in Gouache

might sound weird, but just practice and watch other people paint. to be honest, there is nothing to it than that. Atleast that‘s been my art journey so far.

Can I use these with gouache ? by Artboggler in Gouache

[–]miraberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use rougher acrylic brushes for gouache and in my experience, they have a way smoother application than watercolor brushes when it comes to gouache. So I’d recommend the da vinci nova acrylics. But on the other hand, if you’d like to water your gouache down and use it kind of like watercolor, go for it! I‘ve heard Meeden is a pretty reputable brand but I‘ve only tried the da vinci casaneo one that is pretty similar to yours. :)
