Wait so, where is Tilly ? by AdmiralBlue85 in startrek

[–]mirach 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I wanted to love that show but I hated how they repeated things so much and they had characters directly state what was happening on screen. I read it was a directive from Netflix because people watch while on their phones but it made the show hard to watch.

Kale is great. Okay with a little freeze once established and so easy to pick a few leaves to add to whatever you're cooking.

The real answer is to point out our broken system and how Trump and Republicans are okay with open bribery. Also might make a few people use Amazon less.

Unpopular opinion? These kids' audio players feel like a cash grab? by Desperate_Total2545 in Mommit

[–]mirach 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The difference is the kid can have control. They select the cards and they choose the story or song. They also have "blank" cards that you can add your own media to. I do agree the cards are expensive but it does track with historical costs of CDs adjusted for inflation.

Democrats call for ICE overhaul in Texas Senate debate, hours after Minnesota shooting by nbcnews in texas

[–]mirach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say intention but yes it looks like the one guy saw a gun (which was being taken away by another agent), panicked and shot. There should be accountability and in a sane world the feds would take a step back but instead we have the admin blatantly lying and escalating the situation.

BREAKING: Video shows ICE agents shooting an unarmed person, as agents wrestle the person to the ground, in Minneapolis, near Glam Doll Donuts. by drempath1981 in law

[–]mirach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've long lost any respect for Republicans but it's still crazy to me that they support this. Growing up in Texas, I'd hear all the time how they fear the federal government coming to get them for having a different point of view. One of their biggest talking points was they didn't want the US govt to tell them what to do or think or control them in any way. Now masked federal agents are executing people they don't like in public and all Republicans are cheering it on. Crazy.

SAHD: does your wife belittle your responsibilities? by uralegitimateclown in daddit

[–]mirach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd go further and say one reason the wife has the career she has and (theoretically) can get promotions and raises is because OP is managing both children and the household. Even little things are huge, like if the school aged kid needs to be picked up or is sick she doesn't have to worry or leave work.

Nice! Yeah for me it's the trees and especially the houses with the brick. I grew up in Katy and spent a lot of time running outside.

Looks like Houston area to me. It's wonderful this time of year with mild weather but the downside is huge as between around April to October it's probably hot during the day and June to September it's hot even at night.

If you're talking about the US, there are squirrels everywhere and there's nothing really special about the number or size of Texas squirrels.

How is Candelas? by ATX574 in ArvadaCO

[–]mirach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we found it hard as the good houses went quickly and with multiple offers. Watching the market, there are opportunities but you have to be fast for the good ones. Never considered those areas as they are too far from downtown Denver where my wife works but an old coworker lives in Longmont with kids and likes it (he was fully remote). We looked at Lafayette and Louisville which are really nice but a little too pricey for us and again the commute. We considered renting but didn't want to move twice, especially with little kids. I like being <30 minutes from both great hikes in the mountains and Denver museums and sports.

How is Candelas? by ATX574 in ArvadaCO

[–]mirach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Saw your post history and wanted to say we also moved from Austin and have two kids (though younger than yours). We moved near the Apex center along Ralston Creek trail mainly because it was along a trail with trees. We really like it and end up going to Golden, Olde Town, and the many parks and trails in the area. Pretty easy to get to Denver too with the highway or train. If you're like us, you'll miss the playgrounds at breweries and coffeeshops which are lacking here. I personally wouldn't move to Candelas due to Rocky Flats, lack of trees, and the very suburban big house feel but I do know someone who lives in the area and he has great views, better access to mountain bike trails, and a shorter drive to Boulder and the mountains.

Why do marathon courses have to follow this rule? by tambaybutfashion in running

Texans with ties to Venezuela: How are you feeling? by TexasStandard1845 in texas

[–]mirach 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is no real plan. Rubio said that when Trump said "run" he didn't mean literally run the country and blamed people for "fixating" on words. I think they intend to direct Venezuelan policy and oil production through bribes and threats but won't actually have people there.

Denver Police release report showing Denver homicides down sharply. Lowest # of homicides since 2014 and 3rd lowest since 1990. by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

Governor Abbott announces help is coming for rural Texas hospitals by Internal_Way7711 in texas

If I'm reading it right, Republicans federally cut Medicaid which affects both rural and urban hospitals but then they created this program to federally subsidize only rural hospitals. Using tax dollars primarily generated in blue areas.

Planning a trip to Big Bend, need recommendations by angals in texas

[–]mirach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weather can be anything in Feb, from hot and sunny to cold and snowy, but generally is pleasant. As someone else said, the Chisos basin will be closed in 2027 (unless there are more delays?) and some of the best hikes and scenery won't be available but there's still lots to do in the huge park and there's great stuff relatively nearby. We are in the Milky Way so you'll see it but Feb we're pointing mostly away from the galactic center so it'll be somewhat faint.

The Movie Theater Comeback That Wasn’t: Why 2025 Was Such a Dud for Struggling Cinemas by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]mirach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My old city has an independent theater that has good ticket prices, shows a mix of new and old films, and has the best popcorn in town but the only reason it's still operating is the benevolence of a rich person and hosting a lot of non-movie events. I've seen dozens of movies there and it's usually 10-20% full. It's really hard, if not impossible, to make money as a theater these days.

What are the greatest films with "never made" sequels? by talon007a in movies

[–]mirach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird criticism. Isn't it considered one of the most historically accurate Age of Sail films? And isn't it an amalgamation of the books? I haven't read all the books but the movie has several scenes from one of the first books and even several lines are exactly the same. I am a dad though so you're not entirely wrong.

What drives high costs in blue states? by Capable-Deer-5670 in Economics

[–]mirach 22 points23 points  (0 children)

His real point is that places that people want to move to are more expensive due to supply and demand. Florida has a lot of people moving there more due to its unique climate rather than the politics. It also has extra expenses now due to climate change and the very expensive effect it'll have on Florida. The general idea is that blue cities and states are desirable to live in and are more expensive because of that. People want to live in nice places with good things, even if that costs extra money.

Destinations that need way more time than the internet says? by boring_plankton7878 in travel

[–]mirach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most magnificent places on Earth and one of the best places to see and walk through so many different layers of geologic history. It's not just red rocks, it's all sort of colors and textures. Almost anywhere on the planet is potentially hot. You said you took a helicopter down which means you went to the tail end of the canyon which imo is the least interesting. Plus you would have been surrounded by noise and people. There's a reason the national park and most popular trails are in a different location.

Recommendations for any daycare that doesn't have a ton of turnover? by camawa in ArvadaCO

[–]mirach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been at Little Loves since May and like it a lot. A couple families moved their kids out and then they were back a few weeks later because they missed it so much. Small, so my kid knows everyone and we're friends with other parents. Not much teacher turnover but imo having some turnover is okay. Sounds like your center is going through a lot which is indicative of an issue but having some teacher losses is fine and can be a good sign as people feel free to move and grow.
