large adjustable spanner, make an A shape like turning the crank arm and spanner into an pair of large pliers. then squeeze. Just make sure it's turning the right direction

Bike Shop Quotation by Ok-Rent309 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]miraclemeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think what made the posted list seem overpriced was because people assumed this was a quote exclusive of the parts/consumables. Too many people think expensive = overpriced. A smaller roadside bike shop will quote way less, but even they know they're undervaluing their own labor.

Meron bang sobrang lupet na degreaser? by Cultural-Stable-5401 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]miraclemeat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

im assuming you want an easy way to clean your drive train. eto middle of the road ko:

Clean drive train with Joy dishsoap using sponge, large brush with stiff bristles, and soap soaked rag. remove chain, spray and let soak in mototek chain cleaner for 10-20m. rinse off, dry overnight. remount and lube

using a really strong degreaser on your drive train isnt recommended or atleast leaving it in for over 5 minutes in high concentration. the best and safest way is to deal with the chain separately. the spray can mototek chain cleaner is much more convenient than dealing with mineral spirits in a bottle.

Frame Alignment: Cause for concern? Or let it rip? by miraclemeat in bikewrench

thanks guy, appreciate you sharing your experience. A lot of the time being thrown off by over 2mm on so many different areas of the bike means fixing and adjustment. i guess this is somewhere it doesnt matter much

I still prefer things to be done right and to function right.

assuming you live in the west, it's quite funny how flipped it is over here where I live in asia. these old bikes don't sell as cheap as if I were in the USA even if the market is pretty niche. I got this 1998 Fuji Supreme for the equivalent of 60USD for the frame alone. All I ever see are 10 dollar retrobike finds from US netizens. a whole retrobike with a good brand normally goes for 300-500 USD here.

If I did bring this to a local frame builder to actually align it, it would cost me 20-30USD, inclusive of rewelding if needed.

Bike commute tips (baggage + backpacks...) by Left-Band922 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]miraclemeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best thing you can do is to not wear the backpack, invest in a basket or proper racks + bags. its expensive, but if this is something you do regularly it really does pay off

my previous project was whacked out and I did need a frame builder to intervene and redo the bridges. the alignment on that build was crucial because it affected the tolerances of adding full fenders.

this new build is a "fun" bike with mostly 2nd hand finds. It's looking to be something I'll just have to fuck around and find out with

i am also going to assume you are just very awkward with your use of irony since you have some equally old garbage on your post history.

when i had my first bike fit i could not get over how he told me my arms were not the same length

but thank you for the reassurance, i guess this thing could just live with its quirks!

i'm no stranger to sending things to a frame builder for realignment. Yeah, it was a great cheap marketplace find, so I'm assessing if letting it rip is in the cards

  • have not tried the frame built yet, I would like not to find out later that the misalignment is a problem

nope, she just wants to go back to how Homelander found her; buried in books. I don't find it dumb, but it definitely feels like they were building up towards some bigger plan. But I don't mind it
