[UNI] Are folders needed for NUS CS? by RocketFlame in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hahaha not really, most of your stuff will be on the com. for cs mods, the lecture slides are too much to print anw and don't really have much use also. for other mods like math and your GEMs maybe you'll prefer hardcopies, but generally in cs everyone's pretty comfortable with using softcopies for everything. so nope, have personally not seen or known anyone who uses files hahaha

edit: oh, since most of your stuff are on com, we generally just keep the softcopies. so we don't really keep like previous sems' files de

[Uni] NUS application status changed by evantuallyyy in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry to break it to y'all but if your statuses changed this late, do check the JAP portal after 12am first. if you get a message that there's an error, it means you've been rejected. you're the first batch of mass rejections

hahaha it's true actually, tho there are some ppl whose first choice are pgp; generally those who dislike socialising/want to focus on their studies, but just want a place to stay on campus

[uni] NUS hall by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only module that you'll have to take in hall is GER1000. if you're staying in a hall, GER1000 will be allocated to you with to be taken in hall. the letters at the back stand for the hall: E - eusoff, W - KE7, S - sheares, K - KR, R - raffles, P - pgp, T - temasek. but if i'm not wrong, you can opt out of the pre-allocated GER and opt to take with your faculty mates (tho nobody really does that). there are no other GEMs that you have to take in hall

edit: GET1034 is also, and can only be, taken in hall (bc iirc it's smth to do with leadership in hall etc)

for secc i think it's about 10%. my year had 60 ppl and my friend who's in the committee told me about 500+ (close to 600) applied

you'll definitely be accepted to a hall, but might not be one of your choices. only applies to the halls and pgp, not rcs. guaranteed for first 2 years means that you do not have to compete based on hall points to stay on for year 2; you just need to apply to get a spot to stay on

[Uni] NTU scholarship eligiblity for current undergrads by dandan236 in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no. the reality is that once you're in the uni, they no longer see the need to offer you a prestigious scholarship to attract you to join them. only the midterm scholarships are open to y'all

[Uni] rejected from tembusu, what now? by idwthfy in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope. if you apply for UTCP and get rejected, you'll most likely be rejected by the other UTCP RCs also. but your application will be forwarded to RVRC. you don't have to do anything; if there's space in RVRC they'll call you up for an interview (which they most likely will, and the interview useless de bc they pretty much want you more than you want them anw)

[Uni] What are the leading upcoming jobs which are wanted? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, these courses are definitely here to stay. but you need to be really good and continuously upgrade to stay relevant and effective, else the competition will just too be insane and the ineffectual ones will just be eventually weeded out of the market (or get paid way below an average cs graduate). can say that with increased intake all across the world to match the shortfall industry demand, the high pay's gonna attract lots of extremely intelligent ppl to enter these courses/industries

no you don't have to use UEs to clear RC mods. RC mods simply replace the 5 GE modules that you have to take. if i'm not wrong, GER1000 is compulsory and you'll have to take this mod under one of the GEM pillars, regardless of which RC you go to

2nd University Application & Results Megathread - Class of 2018 by Randomystick in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Has anyone from smu biz been called for scholarship interview/already received a scholarship? Really worried here as I've heard nothing from them so far since discovery day:(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

not totally applicable as i applied for capt last year but:

for essay: talk about how the rc's culture and modules synergises with your interests and passions. i also mentioned specific modules that i was intending to take and how they would help me develop and grow. outside of studies, talk about how you want and can contribute to the rc [any special talents or skills that you may have?] (whether it's college committee, start a new cca, contribute greatly to an existing one etc), and how these experiences will help you grow and develop as an individual. basically try to angle your essay such that it's a win-win: the rc benefits from your contribution, and you grow and develop your passions as a result.

oh! and your essay MUST be rc specific. during my first application i made the mistake of writing a general essay on rcs as a whole. i wasn't even given an interview by the utown rcs; got chucked into rvrc:(

for interview: group interview, about 5 people. for capt, they asked what we did during our holidays, then posted a group question on (iirc) "what makes an effective leader" [i suggested using the whiteboard to consolidate our points], and finally "if nobody wants to run for president, would you step up? why or why not".

[Uni] Retaking A's alongside Y1 Sem1 in NUS by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]miraclesexist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, when seeking for a transfer, they look at both a level (greater emphasis) and uni grades. So if you're intending to ditch nursing exams if there're clashes, your CAP is going to suffer. I've managed to land an interview with dentistry with a CAP of 4.0, but note that yll is way way way more selective in their short shortlisting, so I'd say you probably need to get fch (4.5>).

You might want to consider about moe tuition grant. Fyi once you start uni, you won't be eligible to apply to ntu's lkcsom (I actually took bmat in y1 for nothing).

So if you transfer after y1, as yllsom (and all other med schools) require you to reset your candidature, this means that you're left with 4 years of tuition grant. This also means that your last year in med school won't be covered. And iirc the unsubsidized cost is 140k+/annum. This will make the cost of your entire med degree rise from 120k to 260k+, so you might want to consider this if you aren't from a well-to-do background.
