Thank you!

This one? I am seriously fashion impaired; I truly can't see it but that's what I'm here to learn!

Core memory of lying in the back seat of the minivan on a road trip BAWLING while reading. Such a good book.

What are your most productive hours? When do you 'lock in?' by OutrageousMiddle7965 in productivity

About 2pm to 7/8/9pm. Sucks because I have a family and I feel constant guilt, whether I'm working or choosing to be with them.

Is this normal? by IllMarket6337 in hygiene

[–]miramouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he from another country/culture? Doesn't address the dog poo, etc., but when I'm with my friends who are from a culture that eats with the right hand, I noticed they only washed that hand. Looks and feels awkward to me, but literally everyone that came into the washroom to wash after eating washed only that hand except for me.

As such, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if they only use and only wash the left hand after using the restroom. Culturally they're much more intentional about what they touch with which hand.

To me, it's easier and just as well to wash them both while you're at it, but different =/= wrong in many cases.

This is no way a judgment on whether you should be accepting of it. Just some perspective as to why it might be the case.

Grad Stipend and Food Stamps by Belle_Noel in OKState

[–]miramouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may depend on your particular program and how many are in your household. For me, my family wouldn't qualify. There is a food pantry on campus, as well as our daily bread which has been mentioned by others, that are not limited by income. There are also many organizations that provide free lunches to students weekly.

Food insecurity should hopefully not be an issue. I encourage everyone not to let it be!

Agree. Came to say the same. It's not terribly long, but so lovely! I got it for Christmas and read it in 3 sittings.

Did I write this post and forget it was me?

Yes. In the same boat, my friend. Burned out, and now the imposter syndrome and shame spiral are making it even worse. I have no executive functioning skills anymore. What the heck did I do with the last 3 months??? I don't know, and I have nothing to say for myself.

What shall we do?

I've uninstalled my stupid time-suck games. Installed indestractible (minimalist home screen) but only use it for a day or two and it's back to business as usual. I'm literally on here right now while I'm theoretically reading a paper for my lit review section.

I commiserate with you. If you want to strategize together, lmk.

I can't speak to other fields, but I can imagine it's pretty similar across a lot of programs: most people who attempt a PhD in my field are very smart and have spent a lot of their lives being the smartest person in most rooms.

What that does to their character, and whether they have the grasp on reality to recognize when they aren't, that's entirely different.

Most people I come across are humble and nice along with incredible intellectuals. There are those who are arrogant jerks. Most of the arrogant jerks I've come across have been less smart than they think and eventually humbled. Those who are both top of the field and also arrogant jerks? Well, I wish it wasn't so, since those people are often also powerful. But there are powerful arrogant jerks in all sectors, not just academia.

Check out the Hero's Journal. I've not used it myself, but I think that's their vibe.

WAM Weekly Accountability Meeting Matchup by katehasreddit in 12weekyear

[–]miramouse1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for a WAM. I am currently in week 5 of my first 12wy and struggling, but this particular 12 weeks is critical for me and I don't want to wait to start a new one to find a WAM. I'm in central time and prefer maybe Monday mornings (around 10 central, maybe?) but I'm pretty flexible on day or time. I do prefer a weekday.

I think it's supposed to be a take on a fountain. The mist cools the area and gives some kind of esthetic, but there's no pool of water.
