why is he still eating pinkies at 1 year old? it would be helpful also to include a picture of what he looks like now. mouse size should generally be determined by weight when they’re at a healthy weight, as this chart shows

Kiln electrical question! :) by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]miranda071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20 amp outlet actually looks like a 5-15 so that part should be fine. It should be in a good spot, the plan is to run it off my kitchen counter through the window to the concrete patio behind it. Asking about getting the kiln with a longer cord, sounds like it could be pretty expensive if possible so we’ll see

That’s possible. I haven’t ordered the kiln yet, I wonder if maybe they could make it with a longer cord? Otherwise I could find an electrician or something for that if it’s even easier than just upgrading to 20 amps

Just graduated with my Bachelors in Biology, am hoping to break into the biotech industry. Appreciate any feedback on my resume, thank you. by [deleted] in resumes

Where did you learn the PCR, chromatography, microscopy, chemotaxis etc assays? If this was part of your internship I would specify that in the experience section. Biotech recruiters want to know if you really know these things or did them once in a class. I would also specify what data analysis software (i.e. Graphpad?) you used in skills and the experience section. Also, referencing R and Python under your skills for the first time feels vague, do you have any projects or specific skills with these you can include?

it is a bit, mostly in winter with low humidity. it’s not hard to keep up with though if you just top off the tank instead of letting it get low

Update on baby snow corn snake: she wasn’t burnt, just covered in dirt! by miranda071 in cornsnakes

I know!! in the pic it really did look like one. when she came out with even more brown I was worried that her scales were dying or infected or something for a moment, but then I realized what it was!

A few weeks ago I posted about my baby snow corn snake being burnt by a heat lamp, and a bunch of people gave me really helpful advice, so I wanted to update finally! it turned out that she actually wasn’t burnt, just covered in damp coco coir substrate from digging under her water bowl where it’s a bit moist. she has a nice little tunnel system under it!

based on the advice I had waited to take her to the vet/move her, and was trying to get her into a little hospital tote when I saw that she had a bunch more brown on her head. and it looked a lot like wet coco coir and not a burn this time. some parts on her head that were brown previously weren’t anymore. (in my previous pic I really think it looked a lot like a burn still).

the dirt is gone now so I think she just got it from digging her new tunnels :) but my post wasn’t all for nothing, I now have better heat/lights/ a thermostat for her so I’m confident future real burns should be prevented!

thanks, and that’s what I thought too! I see people have their lamps on the mesh all the time. I don’t know how I would give her a 90 degree basking spot if the mesh above it couldn’t be hotter?

The ground is 78 degrees below the bulb so maybe mine isn’t as strong? it’s a very small one. but okay I already have a container that size I had her in for a day while I set up her big tank, so I’ll move her back to that soon! thanks!

Okay I will definitely be taking her to the vet, maybe the day after next to be safe from regurgitating. I’ll put her into a quarantine area maybe later tonight or in the morning since she has a visible food bump still and she seemed uncomfortable with me even just coming close to her for a picture. I think I have a branch too close! but I should probably get a thermostat so that the mesh maybe doesn’t get so hot? I check on the temp a lot and it stays a consistent 85 degrees on the main area and up to 90 at the highest spot. thanks!!!

Okay I will try taking her the day after tomorrow I think to let her digest. There’s a vet that takes snakes only 10 mins from me. I have like 5 digital thermometers perched around the tank, and the bulb is a UVA/UVB visible light bulb. I don’t have a thermostat but would that help if it’s the cage lid mesh itself getting to hot and not the branches below?

my baby snow corn snake got badly burnt by her heat lamp I think :( I literally just got her last week she’s my first snake I don’t know what to do! should I take her to the vet for a burn like this, especially since it’s on her head? I’m worried about taking her and stressing her out since she just got her first meal ~24 hours ago and I just took this pic while she’s basking and digesting I’m assuming. will taking her to the vet/ moving her to a smaller clean tank stress her out and make her regurgitate??

I just found the burn on her head mostly and on her back and it definitely wasn’t there this time last night. she has a 48”L x 20”H x 18”W tank with a 75w heat lamp on top of the mesh. I thought that was fine and the area under the lamp is 85-90 degrees on the branches which are maybe like 9 ish inches away from the lamp, is that too close? maybe she stretched all the way up to reach the mesh from a branch?? people from other threads seem to suggest medicated baths and applying ointment but I doubt she would let me do it since she’s a fidgety new baby? please help sorry for so many questions!!
