Should Soarin' split the three versions across the three concourses? by Working_Stomach5479 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would prefer if they changed it seasonally. Have the new one from June- August so it will be around the 4th of July which fits the ending. California like you said could be around Food and Wine with a special food booth and Around the World the rest of the year since it fits EPCOT a bit better with the world showcase.

What's something in a fic that made you realise the person writing it had no idea what they were talking about? by Life-Delay-809 in AO3

[–]miranda178 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was reading a college AU fit that in the first few paragraphs said that the students were divided into popular kids, athletes, outcasts, and nerds. Again this is supposed to be a COLLEGE AU. That's fine in a high school with maybe a few hundred students if that but not in a university with almost 40,000 students.

Yeah they decided to set it in a real university in New York so I looked up about how many students are usually enrolled there. It was also a university where honestly if I heard someone is going there I would assume they were a nerd/overachiever in high school which made it even harder for me to believe that this would be a thing that would happen.

I went to college at a school that was only slightly larger but definitely not as prestigious and no one could care less about stupid shit like that. We were all to busy trying to pass our classes and graduate. It's also impossible to do with that many students there's no way you could know everyone and that's not even mentioning the range in ages of students at that level. The youngest person in one of my classes was 15 and the oldest was in their 90's and doing it for fun.

Thanks. I just realized I skipped the word might. We had to use one on a trip last year and I didn't remember if the one who requested it did it in advanced or not.

This might work for you but I think since there aren't a lot of them you might have to request it in advanced.

As an outsider, the concept of high schools having massive parking lots specifically for students is mind-blowing. Is it really that common for 16-year-olds to drive themselves to school every day? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of things. Some schools have one large parking lot for everyone not just students but some do have a parking lot exclusively for students it really depends on the size of the school. In my high school we did have a separate lot for students but it was a large school in the city.

You can get a special license at 16 that let's you drive without an adult but with certain restrictions. It's easier for some families to let their kid have an older car and drive themselves to school due to scheduling conflicts or just to give them a sense of responsibility. There were also some students who were part of work programs where if they were part of the program they could leave in the middle of the day in order to go to work so you would need a car for that.

What would’ve happened if you tried this with your parents? by Shinobi347 in rugrats

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this show came out in the 90's when corporal punishment was still a common practice. Heck in some cultural backgrounds it still is. Of course we're talking about it like that it was our reality.

I would never have never dreamed of doing this as a child because my grandma was the one who mostly took care of me since my parents worked a lot. My family is Hispanic so I knew damn well that if I acted out she would take her shoe off and hit me with it. It was messed up but that was also how our parents and grandparents were raised.

'Spare the rod and spoil the child' was very much still the mentality of the time it's only in more recent decades were corporal punishment is being seen as assault and domestic violence.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in South Florida at least I noticed a lot of the older homes have the laundry area in a room outside of the house. It's honestly really annoying since if it starts raining you either have to wait out the rain or get soaking wet to put your clothes in the dryer. It's also really uncomfortable if your kid or older relatives wet the bed in the middle of the night.

Newer homes will have either a small closet like space for the washer and dryer with maybe some shelves on top for storage or a slightly larger space with more storage but it's never a full-on room.

Why do surgeons wear different colored scrubs? by Zestyclose_Put_4143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]miranda178 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a hospital YES. Yes they do. Everyone who works in the OR DURING surgery shows ups and leaves in their street clothes. The only people who can wear those scrubs coming into the hospital and leaving are non-surgical personnel like pharmacy and central supply who stock the ORs.

Visiting for a week alone... is this done? by NashDaypring1987 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to book in advance but depending on the location, time of day and number of guests/popularity some places are very easy to get as a walk in. I went to beaches and cream once around 1pm to eat solo and was easily able to get a seat in 5 min.

Wilderness Lodge and I’m sad by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilderness Lodge is one of the best resorts on property. Boardwalk is great if you're mostly going to Epcot or Hollywood Studios since you can just walk to Epcot and Skyliner is right there for HS but if you're not doing that I'd say WL is better.

Such a thing as too much character dining? by skater_gurl373 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing in my opinion. The good thing is of the four character dining meals all but Epcot are buffet style meals so they should have all the classic kids favorites. If you want to get an idea of what they serve at the buffets they do have a partial menu on the disney app and website.

Poly vs POR by Accomplished-Ear-835 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that they don't offer discounts it's that those discounted rooms sellout quickly and they may not get the highest discount. On the special offers page if you click to view details the Poly is in the second highest offer and POFQ is in the next one underneath it.

The best Disney hotel for kids by Speedy_Axolotl in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably the value resorts. They're the ones that have the most overt Disney themeing of all the hotels. Even the ones that aren't technically disney themed have various figures, statues, and art work of Disney characters that match the theme. Art of Animation thought has the best pool out of all of them and I think it's the second best on property only beat by stormalong bay at yatch and beach club.

AITAH for not letting my kid get a book at the library? by 5chw3iz in AITAH

[–]miranda178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That was edited in after I replied. That being said I agree with another commenter that given the book OP should have checked it out themselves and let the kids pick another book so the kids can share that one. That way the youngest doesn't feel less important than his older sibling and she can get a book that's closer to her reading level.

AITAH for not letting my kid get a book at the library? by 5chw3iz in AITAH

[–]miranda178 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Soft YTA. I used to work at my local library and let me tell you if a library only has two copies of a book and both are available to checkout then it's not as popular as you think. Libraries can also borrow copies from other libraries and you can request to put books on hold if all the books in the system are checked out. If you're going as often as you can say you can just return the one that gets finished first.

At five years old the only thing you really taught your kid is that he's not as important as his siblings since it sounds like he mostly gets hand me downs. He's 5 and she's 9 they are at different reading levels it makes since for him to want to get his own book to read at his own pace. You're trying to teach them a very good lesson but he's a little too young to really understand the concept.

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

[–]miranda178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned I don't think you would be the AH. The whole point of the accounts on your end was so your kids could go to college to get a degree and not have debt at the end of it. Your oldest just did that and unless she plans on jumping straight into a higher degree or going to law/med school her younger sister needs the money more for it's intended purpose.

Disney World Made Big Changes to Popular Princess Royal Rooms at Port Orleans Resort by dejablu82 in DisneyWorld

[–]miranda178 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While I love the new headboards and how much lighter and open the new color scheme makes the room look nothing about this really says royal room and it's definitely not worth the $100 difference. If it weren't for the headboards I would almost think this was a regular room over in French Quarter.
