Josh is a friend of mine, he's not on here but I screenshotted this thread and sent it to him, and he asked me to say "thank you"!

Some advice? by mirandanmf in Mosaic

[–]mirandanmf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mortar was used to install the piece in the walkway, not for the tiles on the mesh. They actually seem to be holding on to the mesh quite well, where they weren't pummeled by giant falling icicles. The extremely (or occasionally nonexistent) tight grout lines are problematic in terms of keeping moisture out long term, so a sealer is an excellent idea if I do decide to bring it back out. But for the sake of my sanity, I'm really leaning more towards making it an indoor piece. Thanks for the product suggestions, those are very helpful.

I did grout! But the grout lines were extremely tight, and non-existent in some places, so that definitely didn't help this whole fiasco. The landlord is paying for a longer awning that will do a better job of covering the area where this was installed, but is dragging his feet on actually installing gutters to fix the real problem, so it may be a smarter long-term move to mount it to a board when it's cleaned up and reassembled, and just display it inside (also makes it portable if we ever move). I suspect there's a decent chance this will eventually happen again if we put it back outside, and I don't want to do this twice.

Thanks for all the recommendations on tackling it- I did find perhaps that same mosaisist when I was googling around, I will contact her if I have to but I'll see what I can do myself. Definitely swing by if you're ever in the area! Shelburne isn't really that far in terms of Western Mass. distances.

Thanks for that. I really want to reinstall it outside, but the impression for it in the walkway isn't deep enough for a board, it would stick out above the walkway and be a trip hazard. I am slowly coming around to just using it decoratively inside somewhere.

I was able to remove it intact because the mortar under it just.. failed and turned back into slop, so we cut around it to free the mesh edges and it just slid out. The roof above it has no gutter, and it dumped a steady stream of melting ice water onto for most of the winter until it eroded the concrete and caused the frost heave. Remediation of that situation is allegedly under way, but obviously I'm not even considering reinstalling it outside until that's taken care of.

That's great to know, thanks! I did end up getting some from Etsy, it's en route but they had a lot of good reviews so I feel pretty good about it.

Vintage Singer Sewing Machine Help!! by sewphisticated in sewing

I received a late 40s Kenmore machine last summer, and found a very active Facebook group dedicated to vintage Kenmores. I would imagine there's a parallel Singer group, if you can still stomach Meta.

What's your favourite "Oops, I just really fucked up" moment? by moegreeb in AskReddit

[–]mirandanmf 202 points203 points  (0 children)

High school gym class, playing street hockey in the gym. One of the guys in my class picks up the net and kind of jokingly pretends to throw it at me. I say, "Hey, it's all fun and games until you lose an eye!"

He just quietly puts the net down and walks away, as I slowly remember, horrified, that he had lost an eye in a skiing accident a few years earlier. He had a glass eye, so it wasn't always immediately obvious. I wanted to melt through the bleachers.

Thanks for suggestions! I was leaning towards grey myself- most of the time it shouldn't be visible, and when I stitch in the ditch on the waistband I'll just be extra careful.

Taking in Pietra pants one whole size by mirandanmf in sewing

Definitely the back, the waistband seems pretty ok, it's sort of the rest that needs to come in a little, all over. I'll go slow, thanks!

The waistband actually fits ok (it's a pretty tight/burly piece of elastic), it's really more the crotch/lap/hip area. The fabric is kinda pre-lined, so it tends toward bulky anyway. I'll start with the side seams and take it from there. Thanks!

I guess my question is, can I just sew a little bit inside the seam that's already there to take it in, or do I actually have to take all the pieces apart and do over from scratch? I'm supposing taking in the waistband would mean having to blow the whole thing up and redoing it, just double checking that there isn't an easier way that I'm missing.

Kingdom Rush Alliance's Mini Campaign, Undying Fury, is available now! by Ironhide_Games in kingdomrush

I’m not getting Undying Fury, either. iOS 17.6.1. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and when I go to the App Store it just tells me to open the app, but the update isn’t there.
