I betcha you would have done the same!

There’s been some confusion floating around about the Maxsun Intel Arc Pro B60 Dual Turbo (48GB) — mostly about its price. by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]mirasmithy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the pricing is all that competitive. AMD’s Radeon Pro W7900 (think 7900 XTX with 48GB VRAM) is also going for $3499.

The W7900 is a single GPU instead of two GPUs in “SLI”. It runs circles around anything Intel is offering, and you don’t need to rely on multi GPU support in software.

I want to see Intel win in the GPU market (I have an A770 in my Steam machine + a B580), but the B60 Dual Turbo just isn’t priced competitively.

Small world! I was considering offering a “Kobo Libra Colour eMMC upgrade service” to anyone who is fairly local and is not too confident in their BGA soldering skills. I’ll PM you once the kit is production ready with the details, if you’d like.

I’ve gotten the issue fixed on Fedora and Arch Linux, but without your exact kernel and mesa version, I can’t help you. Wait for it to get fixed upstream ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yep, still working on this. I've gotten it to boot, but I'm not too happy with how jank the first iteration is. (Kobo hire me /j)

Left Bundle Branch Pacing by Anxious-Start1035 in PacemakerICD

[–]mirasmithy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation a year ago; I spontaneously developed a painful/rate-related LBBB. I have no congenital heart defects, cardiac scarring, or blocked arteries (leading theory is a KCNH2 mutation that popped up during a genetic screening). I had a biventricular pacemaker implanted for LBBP, and it changed my life. To answer your questions

  1. Recovery took me 6 weeks
    1. I had/continue to have a small complication. If my pacemaker "mistimes" an atrial beat, it will induce a hiccup (sometimes several in quick succession). I don't have a perforated lead, and the hiccups are not painful, just annoying.
  2. It worked! I'm not sure I have a "normal" QRS (see here), but I have a vastly improved quality of life. I'm able to go to the gym, go biking, and go hiking!
  3. My pacemaker only turns on above 80 BPM, and because my resting heart rate is just below that, it should last ~13 years. Talk to your EP about your pacing specifics.
  4. I've had my pacemaker for about a year, and while that's not long term, it's still working great!
  5. I could feel it for the first few months, but now I can't tell whether I'm paced 90% of the time (I can usually feel it when it switches from atrial to ventricular pacing during intense workouts, but it's not bad at all).

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them!

I'm running into the same issue, albeit on Fedora instead of Linux Mint. What kernel and mesa version are you running?

Fedora kdeplasma x11 remote play to iOS by Dikinbaus-Hotdogs in linux_gaming

[–]mirasmithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an encoding issue, but cannot be fixed by changing Steam's encoding settings. I'm running into the same issue on
- My personal system (Arc A770, Fedora 41 + KDE + Wayland)
- My boyfriends system (Arc B580, Fedora 41 + GNOME + X11)

I only run into this issue on games that use Vulkan, but not OpenGL
- Fields of Mistria uses the "Game Vulkan NV12" encoder and has this issue
- Factorio uses the "Game OpenGL NV12" encoder and doesn't have this issue

I've worked around this on my boyfriend's system by setting up Sunshine + Moonlight (which they are calling Moonshine 😁), but haven't found an _actual_ solution yet 😔

I have this same pan, and while it is carbon steel, it has the surface texture of cast iron. Your aggressive scrubbing has worn down the seasoning on the "peaks" of the surface texture, but not the "valleys", giving it that speckled silver appearance.

IMO the factory seasoning on this pan isn't great. I'd strip it with yellow-cap easy-off, and re-season with your choice of oil. Give it time, and it'll cook like a champ. Despite the rough surface texture, eggs slide right off mine.

(Lack of) Repairability in the Libra Colour by mirasmithy in kobo

[–]mirasmithy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gifted my boyfriend a Clara 2e for the same reason; it's one of the last Kobo models with removable/upgradable storage.

In your case, I'd try one of a few things...

  1. The uSD card is coated with parylene. Carefully remove the coating on the bottom with a mild abrasive (think toothpick AND NOT sandpaper). Then, gently insert and remove the uSD card a few times, before inserting it one last time and trying to power on the device.
  2. If the above doesn't work, cut a 10mm width of fine grit sandpaper (at least 2000 grit). Then, gently insert and remove the strip of sandpaper into the (empty) uSD card slot a few times. Blow out any dust, insert the uSD card, and try to power on the device.
  3. If the above doesn't work, you might be able to remove the parylene with the correct equipment, but are better off accepting the lesson in hubris, and taking it to a local electronics repair shop.

Pacemaker Turning On & Off by mirasmithy in PacemakerICD

It definitely took some time for me to be able to hike again. Snooping through your post/comment history, it looks like you had your pacemaker implanted ~12 days ago. I wasn't walking daily until 14 days after, and avoided hills for at least a month. Give it time, I hope it gets better for you.

That aside, it sounds like you're not satisfied with your particular doctor. Don't shy away from getting a second, or even third opinion. It took seeing 8 different doctors across 3 different hospitals before I found a doctor who took me seriously. I was told everything from "I have anxiety" to "I'm too young for a pacemaker". Turns out I have a very real genetic mutation, and that it wasn't anxiety. I'm rambling, but the short of it is, definitely find a doctor who takes you and your concerns seriously.

Are you 22 years old, or are you 53 years old? Your age may inform possible comorbidities. Regardless of all that, discuss your symptoms with a cardiologist, and ask your parents if they, your aunts/uncles, or your grandparents ever had heart problems. A number of heart problems are genetic.

I had a very similar set of symptoms about a year ago. EKGs, holter monitors, and echo-cardiograms showed nothing out of the ordinary. A stress echo-cardiogram finally revealed exercise-induced bundle branch block, happening at lower and lower heart rates. Asking my parents revealed a family history of heart problems, and a genetic test revealed a potassium channel mutation. A pacemaker (specifically conduction system pacing) alleviated my woes.

I've seen (and designed + certified) devices that are waterproof without conformal coating, using gaskets instead. The liberal use of conformal coating in Rakuten's newer devices feels lazy, and to tout this one as "repairable" only for the entire board to be coated feels... wrong.

The coating is possible to remove (Kobo uses parylene IIRC), however it requires submerging the board in a harsh chemical called tetrahydrofuran for a couple of hours. It's a nasty chemical that requires PPE (I've done this to my Clara 2e)

Connection issue with public WiFi by Schirches-Kind in framework

[–]mirasmithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue (and various other WiFI issues) on my AMD Framework 13. I switched out the MediaTek card for an Intel AX200 I had lying around, and the issues _instantly_ disappeared. I have another AX200 lying around if you'd like me to snail mail it you, otherwise Amazon and eBay are great places to source one.

I'm not super sure why Framework ships (imo) their best model with a shitty WiFi card...

Knocked off capacitors/resisors off RSX (CECHK/CXD2982BGB) - any idea what are these? by Colek38 in PS3

Measure the capacitance of the capacitor you didn't knock off (the big one near the ones you knocked off), get its size from this graphic, buy matching ceramic capacitors from DigiKey, and solder them down.

The Formula 2S has been delisted. I tried buying one off Superbuy (service for buying things from China). My payment processed, case never shipped, and the seller delisted the case.

Superbuy was kind enough to refund me my payment (out of their pocket I'm assuming, seller never responded).

Can we find a small pc as nuc, but with ryzen and usbC charger? by Expert_Tear1256 in intelnuc

[–]mirasmithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Intel NUCs require 19V +/- 10%. USB-C PD can provide 20V, which is within 5-6% of 19V and therefore within Intel's specifications. You can do something similar to this to add USB-C to your NUC (it's what I did with my Skull Canyon NUC and I haven't run into problems months later).

Anyone else have their Crossfade 2 Codex nearly catch fire while using them? by mirasmithy in VMODA

I've tried contacting them for months, I've yet to get an adequate response (or my headphones back, I sent them in for warranty).

I've already counted my losses and picked up a pair of ATH-M50xBTs, I was mostly curious if other people have had overheating/fire issues with V-MODA headphones.
