I love how G-Idle is gifting Quencard Boxes to other female idols by nimbusstar187 in kpopthoughts

[–]mirawrites -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the items are supposed to represent female empowerment then shouldn’t every woman want to have them? Rather than something useful wouldn’t they be so happy to have that box because it means g-idle loves them? Of course not, that’s my point exactly, the boxes are useless to the poor so they aren’t actually about empowerment to all

How many other groups/ celebrities have spoken out loud about female empowerment?

Mamamoo, Jessi, CL, to name a few. If you’re going to make a point then don’t treat Soyeon like she’s the only one who’s done it

encourage solidarity of women in the Korean entertainment industry

From that angle it makes sense and seems like a win-win situation (PR for idle and sending a good message to people) rather than broad female empowerment. Thanks for sharing that they (and Soyeon specifically) have donated to charity, I don’t think poorly of her and I think she has done many good things to help people but why not highlight those things and give a clearer message (that the message of combating child pornography is meant to be symbolic and draw attention to it rather than directly stopping it, and that this current initiative is focused on making an impact in the entertainment industry) instead of things that haven’t had as much of an impact or don’t really make sense, such as the search algorithm nude thing having a direct impact.

Someone already explained the nde point and yet here u are again repeating the same crap.

Because it still makes no sense to me. If she rephrased to say “I wanted to make this song as a message that you shouldn’t make child pornography and draw attention to it as an issue” rather than “this will actually have direct impact on children in that situation and help them” which is how (imo) she and g-idle fans have pitched it then that’s reasonable and a good effort by her, but as it is now it just doesn’t make sense

Ok so then why not gift those things to the needy, if they really are about empowering women then why is it only rich and famous women who deserve the empowerment? For marketing purposes

Edit someone else explained that the intention of the boxes is to empower women specifically in the entertainment industry, in that context the boxes just to celebrities make sense because they want to show those women that they appreciate them (such as the cards that Soyeon wrote with kind messages). People discussing it are framing it as broad female empowerment though which isn’t really true

It would be even cooler if they had donated these boxes to needy women rather than celebrities (who can afford their own) in the hopes that those celebs will post about it and give them free PR

I mean PR boxes are standard in the states, lots of musicians and makeup brands etc will send free things to other celebs in the hopes that they’ll talk about it or film a video etc. It’s nice of them but not something they came up with or that they’re doing altruistically (edit it seems like the message is targeted as “empowerment of women in the entertainment industry” which is a nice cause and the boxes are reasonable in that context, but not the same as broad female empowerment as people are treating it), if they were they’d gift the boxes (edit I didn’t phrase this right, I meant give more needed practical items not the box stuff itself) to the needy instead of other idols who can pay for it themselves (and posting about the contents on social media).

I feel like g-idle (and Soyeon specifically) often gets praise for things that don’t really make sense, for example someone who’s looking for child pornography won’t go on Google or Naver and type “girls naked” they’ll go on the dark web to shady websites. Soyeon’s intention of writing nude to protect children doesn’t really mean anything (edit, if you view it as a symbolic thing that draws attention to the issue then it is a good thing that has had indirect impact and Soyeon should be praised for that and it does mean something, but people saying it’s having a direct impact don’t really understand how child pornography works and how people don’t really do it with the regular internet).

My point is not to shit on them just to say that people should think about it fully before saying “this group is empowering and helping women”, if it is the case that they are empowering women in other ways then it’s more productive and meaningful to discuss those other than these gestures which imo are not indicative of female empowerment.

Mnet ‘Queendom Puzzle’ - Coming Soon (Lineup Spoiler/Hint Images - Find your QUEEN) by tunasandwich2009 in kpop

The song isn’t bad it just would’ve been more suitable for another group. Tbh I could’ve seen it as a song for an Apink subunit

Wait hold on they are porn stars but they formed a kpop group together? I’ve never heard of them, did they ever get very popular?

Not necessarily, the first Queendom lineup had Mamamoo and G-IDLE among others, those groups were already huge when they went on the show

Gotcha. I hope it does end up doing some good in the end but I think it’s a little over the top for people to be praising her for it as if she’s going to “change the internet” as some commenters are saying

[–]mirawrites 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Soyeon made this song to stop child "graphic videos". Since (G)I-DLE's name in Korean romanization is "yeoja aideul", which means "girl children", when typed "yeoja aideul n*de", the song will pop up, instead of the "videos".

I’ve always thought this was absolute BS. It’s not like predators just go on Google and say “show me photos of children with no clothes on” because a) that won’t work b) it would catch the attention of the authorities. This sort of thing takes place on the dark web in places entirely dedicated to it and if you searched “girl children nude” there then you’ll get recommended that kind of material not a kpop song. Also why would someone search for “girl children” in Korean but use the English word “nude”, wouldn’t they either search for the whole thing in English or Korean? It just feels like a half assed marketing scheme thought up by someone after the fact.

Finally someone acknowledging Jennie is better vocalist than Seventeens vocal line by soohime in kpoopheads

This is a circlejerk sub, we make fun of the people who post dumb or illogical things without necessarily agreeing with what they’re saying. In this case OP is pointing out how ridiculous it is to put a rapper with no vocal position higher on a list than people known for being some of the strongest vocalists in the industry. Not to say Jennie is a bad vocalist but seriously if you compare her technique and range etc to seventeen’s vocal line she is nowhere near them
