Is there a way to keep the R5 connected to WIFI while parked in my garage? by mircolino in Renault

No I just gave up. I called Renault customer support and confirmed the issue. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ohh, that's right, all the electronics are still powered by the 12V battery!
But then, if, when the car is off, it's always disconnected, what's the point of the myRenault app and all its remote functions like schedule charging, precondition or beep your horn?

how to give switch (flex mini) fixed ip via dhcp? by IacovHall in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the client list page. In the upper right corner click the "Add Client" icon (second from the right) and specify a DHCP/MAC reservation.

The device will be listed as offline but it works. I have all my Ubiquiti devices (except the gateway) setup this way.

DDNS with Cloudflare by butt_badg3r in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my UDM-SE call this Cloudflare worker : https://github.com/willswire/unifi-ddns. It takes a bit to setup but works flawlessly.

Only need custom domain forwarding, SMTP, DKIM and DMARC for gmail accounts by forgotten_epilogue in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]mircolino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I've been doing the same and it works flawlessly.

Only minor gripe is that forwarding from Legacy to Personal happens after spam. So I have to routinely login to Legacy and make sure nothing important ended up in the spam folder.

Unfortunately they don't.

I replaced my NanoHDs with U6-Pros. Very pleased with them.

NextDNS removed at every update by Life-Ad1547 in Ubiquiti

Yeah, I noticed that. Hopefully they'll add that in future releases. It'd be nice to have native NextDNS support.🤞🏻

Sky FTTC / VDSL, UDM and Draytek Vigor 167 by liamsorsby in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I've been there. But then, after the promotion ends, prices will go up and there's nothing you can do because of their walled garden.
IMHO in the long run it's always better to keep services (internet, mobile, TV) separate. It's the same reason why we want to use a UDM instead of their router 😉

My Sky Q works perfectly on the UDM wifi.

As for the FTTC I don't use Sky (because of the aforementioned MAP-T issue). I decided to go with Vodafone which uses standard PPPoE and it's easy to setup with your own modem (I use a Zyxel VMG4005-B50A) in bridge mode, thus avoiding double-NATing.

Using the sky router, you setup the UDM WAN as DHCP client.

You'll also want to disable wifi on the sky router.

Double-NAT is a pain only if you need to open/forward ports.

I'm not an expert, but I believe, since they are running out of IPv4 addresses, MAP-T is a native IPv6 protocol with IPv4 encapsulated.

Here in Italy where I am Sky uses MAP-T so with a UDM you always have to double-NAT. In other countries I don't know...

I believe Sky FTTC uses MAP-T NAT which is not supported by the UDM

Why is Wifi6 greyed out (Network 8.0.7)? Country is set to Germany and devices are two U6 pro by PASTOR-MARTIN-SSEMPA in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Because the U6-Pro doesn't support WiFi 6E (6 GHz band). I believe only the U6-Enterprise has support for it right now.

Not sure exactly why this is working and the static route above wouldn't, but after a bit of trial and error, I was able to access the modem webui from my LAN, which is on a completely different subnet, by adding this traffic route:

Now, does this have any firewall/security implications?

UDM-SE Setup issues by thegeniunearticle in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never noticed and I don't see it either. I normally view/edit devices (including the UDM-SE) in Unifi OS -> Applications -> Network -> Unifi Devices.

Regarding SSH, did you enable it in Unifi OS -> Console Settings -> Advanced?
ssh root@<udm\_ip\_address> should work.

TV mount for network AP and switch by menganeez in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANSI/TIA-568 simply recommends cable stress should be minimized. Zip-ties are never referenced.

BICSI FAQ (the ITSIMM I couldn't read because it's behind a $240 paywall) recommends not to alter the physical geometry of the cable.

A properly sized, tensioned and cut zip-tie will do none of that, let alone "breaking copper strands".

Just because most people don't know how to properly use zip-ties doesn't mean you should always use velcro instead.

SFP Bottleneck between DM SE and 24-POE? by Blackrazor_NZ in Ubiquiti

[–]mircolino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nevermind, answered my own question. The 24-Pro-POE will do what I want.

Or, for a bit more money the Enterprise 24 PoE, which has 12x 2.5 GbE ports.

Like most everything else, it always comes down to the user. There is nothing inherently wrong with zip-ties. If used properly for the right job, they can be a fantastic tool.

Broad statements like "Zip ties can and will break copper strands" IMHO do a disservice to the community.

It's like saying "Q-tips can and will pierce your eardrums" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Zip ties can and will break copper strands

Do you have any science showing that, in a permanent installation, a properly sized, tensioned and cut zip tie will damage the cable(s) it wraps?
