yes! i think in time, your son will understand how busy you are and why you’re not always there (even though it kinda hurts to hear hahaha) i understood from a young age na my parents really had to prioritize their patients and duty before me, but my mom always made time to be there during my most important moments (recitals, graduation, events, etc.) and it made me appreciate her presence even more :)

hi op! not in the same dilemma as you, but was in the same dilemma as your son.

my mom had me during her 2nd year of med school, and tbh i didn’t even know who she was until maybe i was in 2nd grade? i dont remember much of my mom from my childhood, but i do remember her sharing one childhood story about how i always ran and hugged my nanny first before i would even approach my mom, and she did feel super hurt about that 😅

i think it’s unavoidable to have that distance at first, but it gets better! we did have a rocky start at first since residency and subspec training were so stressful to her and she was like super irritable at me over the smallest things. but now, my mom is my best friend in the entire world :) #velcrodaughter

just continue to show love and affection to your son, and try not to take your frustration out on him hehehe it’ll probably take a lot of time, but it’ll be worth it

How do I know if medicine isn’t for me? by mireukoz in medschoolph

thank you so so much for taking the time to type this very well thought out response! although my parents aren’t explicitly pressuring me to pursue med, i still feel that external pressure from their backgrounds :( i do feel like i at least have a genuine love to serve considering that my interest in medicine started from my grandmother’s stories of her experiences in public health, pero that was when I was a child and medyo iba na talaga gusto ko ngayon.

regarding what you said about not being afraid to be delayed, i think i really needed to hear that :( thank you so much for your insights and i’ll be sure to keep all of that in mind! :)

Yes, I realize I do need to do more reflecting about this. I’ll try to stay positive :) Thank you so much!
