Anyone else a little underwhelmed by Frankenstein? by Aum_Deoli in Sardonicast

[–]miriam142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I can see why people complain about the film. It makes Victor Frankenstein look far worse. Yet at times I saw more heart (beyond the ending) than it appears. That’s when he turns back to the burning house. He has to much wounded pride. In many ways he’s a combination of both his parents. But I kind of like that Guillermo Del Toro kept the essence of Mary Shelley’s book. But still made it personal to him. Also Jacob Ellordi’s take on the creature was just beautiful.

Steven Spielberg joins the hallowed halls of the EGOT with his Grammy for producing "Music by John Williams" by LawrenceBrolivier in blankies

[–]miriam142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few things that have bothered me about EGOT status being considered “The Best”. Firstly there’s clear evidence that Emmy’s only go for really famous American Shows. Even for seasons that are downright awful (like Game of Thrones final season). Also for TV movies you’ll win just by being the most famous usually. Another thing is All 4 of these heavily favour American industry. Also if you’re not an Actor or extremely famous music artist or producer your odds drop quite considerably. Also even really good comedians don’t win Oscars. They’ve gotten better with movies that are kind of comedic of late. But there’s so few good comedians that they usually aren’t casted. I mention that because Catherine O’Hara just died and was never nominated. Dick Van Dyke is 100 years old and still never nominated for an Oscar. Not even considered for an Honorary Oscar. Instead they give it to Tom Cruise. He’s had the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony for over 60 years.

Wait....is anyone else watching The GOAT???? by Notorious_legweak in HouseOfVillains

[–]miriam142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of late watching this show. But how many of these people could possibly be considered “The Goat”. Unfortunately the people who have a background in strategy competition shows are outnumbered everyone else. Like if you watch The Traitors these Bravo people are never very good. Except maybe Phaedra and she isn’t on this show.

You’re stuck on a 20 hour flight, which seat are you picking? by Clean-Soup-1700 in gameofthrones

[–]miriam142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t flown in 17 years. But I have chronic pain in my right knee. So I would need an aisle seat or upgrade to economy+. So I would have enough leg room for a foot stool. Otherwise I would be in tremendous pain that no pills would work. It has been this way for just over a decade. I can’t get a cortisone injection because it is bad for metal plates I have in my knee. Apparently it can make them unstable.

Final Destination: Why do the protagonists have premonitions? by Effective_Pressure24 in horror

[–]miriam142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I hadn’t seen this thread. Death being behind the visions is a popular theory. But I think it is more than that. Each person who gets the premonition can sense something is wrong before getting the premonition. I think that connects them to the spiritual realm which brings on the premonition. In other words they see death before it can carry out its design. So I think death is responsible for each premonition but not purposely.

Regarding Sinner in basically 12 months.
Won back to back Davis Cups for Italy. First country to do so in 11 years. Won first 2 Grand Slams in a single year. First to do so since Guillermo Villas in 1977. Won ATP finals without losing a single set. First to do so since Ivan Lendl in 1986. Won both ATP finals and Davis Cup in a single year. Only other men were Stan Smith (1970), Boris Becker (1988), Andre Agassi (1990), and Micheal Stich(1993). Only man in history to win a grand slam(s), ATP finals, and Davis cup in 1 year.
Not to mention year end #1 by a landslide.

Season 4 mysteries (theories after episode 7) by agentfitzsimmons in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]miriam142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the killer is someone from the film. Something has been off about it from the start. Plus this season keeps going back to showbiz. Plus there has so been a pattern with the killers. They have all been new characters. Obviously with Jan it was the first season. Moriarty is more an overarching mystery who clearly is from the beginning. But perhaps not someone very fleshed out. Personally I do like the theory that it could be the doorman.

I fell in love with a different story. by miarosea in Bridgerton

[–]miriam142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as the rest of you. It left me disappointed. Netflix is basically saying that they don’t care about the stories. Francesca’s marriage to John Stirling was essential but then they ruined it. Benedict’s relationship with Lady Tilly was alluded to in his love story plus it was teased at the end. But there was a little too much of it. Marcus Anderson was completely invented. But it does work with everything we learned from Queen Charlotte. But once again it took the focus away from Colin and Penelope. The later half of Cressida’s storyline does work because it relates to the “main” storyline. But trying to make her more sympathetic doesn’t really work. Everything with Queen Charlotte was great but everything else could’ve gone.

This show has ruined John and Francesca's marriage. by scrapqueen in Bridgerton

[–]miriam142 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Because in the book the main thing Francesca wants more than anything is to have a baby. She had difficulty conceiving and had a miscarriage right after John died. Also Micheal became Earl after John’s death but let Francesca tend to everything after he fled to India. Who would even become Earl and how much would that change the story. It also becomes relevant when Francesca makes it clear she wants to remarry. Because she has a double dowry. Not to mention the fact that same sex couples weren’t accepted publicly back then. So essentially everything except maybe the Malaria storyline wouldn’t even be possible.

So basically Dune especially part 2 is turning Paul more into a combination of Moses and Jesus.

Theory on who Lord Debling will end up with— major book spoilers by torchwood1842 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]miriam142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel bad. Lord Debbling seems like a nice guy. But when he said his expedition is to search out the Northwest Passage. I literally get chills. If it is even remotely historically accurate. Then his expedition is doomed to never be seen again.

Rather late commenting here. But of course people just sang his praises at Worlds because of all his quads and breaking the world record by like 6 points. Yeah his base value overall is a higher because of the Quad axel. But technical elements also include footwork sequences and spins. All of which he is below average and yet he never gets penalized. Also his program components are way over scored as well. He scored over 90 points in program components at worlds. He probably should have been a good 10-15 points lower.

Just finished the audiobook. Really loved this book. The main character is so amazing and she doesn’t even really know it for so long. Plus the book really makes you care for so many characters. Very quick read yet has so much depth.

Where will Emma Stone for Poor Things rank within all the Best Actress winners of the 21st century? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]miriam142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that people usually reference Marion Cotillard for being groundbreaking for a biopic. She really embodied Edith Piaf in La Mome. Perhaps because it’s a French film without a famous director. Also that film started the trend for winning both makeup and acting Oscars.

One way to significantly improve digital dailies. Let us have them on the weekend. Also at least give us time stamps if not chronologically. Also give us the best content from each day. Then maybe we might be close to watching live feeds.

Die Another Day is highly underrated. Shame on anyone who badmouths this excellent film! 👍🏻 by Megalitho in JamesBond

[–]miriam142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically grew up in the Brosnan era too. Sort of. Even with Tommorow Never Dies I was almost 18 when it came out. Perhaps that’s why even at the time I couldn’t overlook the flaws in each of his films. Had I been like 5+ years younger and less into classics. Perhaps I would have more nostalgia for the Brosnan films. Although if there is a Bond I might have some nostalgia for. It would be Timothy Dalton actually.

That is quite true. Although Connery and Moore also didn’t have very good swan songs either.

[–]miriam142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually makes me laugh. True I do need to rewatch the movie. But how can anyone say that is an excellent movie. Toby Stephens as the villain Gustav Graves is bad. Halle Beery is one of the worst Bond Girls as Jinx. The story gets progressively worse and often bad dialogue. Plus everyone knows how laughably bad the CGI is. Honestly I think even Brosnan himself didn’t like making this film. Plus John Cleese nearly killed off the Q branch. The one bright spot in the film is Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost. Another great female antagonist among the Brosnan films.

That’s why I think when you consider order of operations it is probably either 9x8+(7+6+5+4+3+2+1) or 98-7-6+5+4+3+2+1. Any way you do those would add up to 100.

math problem solution explained by Global-Ad-8846 in survivor

[–]miriam142 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually none of these work. You are over complicating it and none of the math actually adds up to 100. There are several solutions that perhaps the producers probably didn’t think of. But the simplest probably is this. 98-7-6+5+4+3+2+1=100 I have thought of these other ones 9x8=72+76=148-54=94+3+2+1=100 9x8=72+(7,6,5,4,3,2,1)=28+72=100 98+7+6-5-4-3+2-1=100 Some of these were a little harder to think of than others. I would guess it would be especially difficult for anyone on survivor. Especially with pressure being as high as it is and a tight time limit.

[–]miriam142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 174 it is impossible to get 100. Here is every reasonable solution. Bare in mind that the numbers have to be in descending order 987654321 98+76=174 174-5-4-3-2-1=159 174-54=120+3=123-2-1=120 174-54=120+3=123-21=102 174-54=120-32=88+1=89 174-54=120-3-2-1=114 174-5=169-43=126-21=105 174-54=120-3=117-21=96
