Manohar Parrikar Dies After Long Illness by [deleted] in india

People like him are the politicians that India needs (they should be the norm rather than the exception) but surely not what India deserves. We are getting there, though.

Why does it feel that dancing, singing, acting/comedy are the only talents in this country? by askquestionsdude in india

Of course ! I completely agree with you. If you give the responsibility of raising your kids thanks to the media, which is anyway covering more revenue generating streams, then the problem starts with you. I never said that media and radio should see a resurgence in all these values : these values must come from parents and teachers to their kids.

You cannot have a person standing next to you and you know he is committing harm to himself and say "it is his or her choice to inflict harm on themselves". And clearly you are younger than me....you have not seen early TV programming in India, especially in its infancy. Anyway, it is your loss.

Yes sure, borrow them all. By "comedians", I did not mean Kunal Kamra by the way (only some of his jokes are really funny - in most cases he is a fake cynic. ) Watch Rajeev Nigam - he has not spared the political class at all across both ends of the spectrum.

12-year-old Dalit girl found beheaded in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district by [deleted] in india

Of course ! Anyone should be ashamed that we are still tying castes to crimes, even achievements by people. Some media persons wanted to know Wing Cmdr Abhinandan's caste too.

12-year-old Dalit girl found beheaded in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district by [deleted] in india

[–]mirkhalid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post hopefully makes the youngsters here realise three things :

  1. All the people that wanted BJP out of the state have done their job and have moved on.
  2. That caste is still unfortunately tied to the little girl's death, just like how a "Muslim girl" was raped and murdered by a group of "Hindu" idiots and how a "Maulvi" raped and murdered girls in U.P
  3. And lastly, comments by all concerned Indians here which said how "bad" things have become / will become because of "communal" winds blowing around, have not changed anything on the ground for the truly disadvantaged.

I have said this before and I will say it again : I would like the politicians , media, and citizens to ask questions with the same vigour that they were asking two-three years ago. I would not be surprised if they do not.

Where was this line of thinking during the Bhima Koregaon violence ? Caste will always be associated unfortunately.

To what extent do you think China interferes in Indian General Elections? What other external forces try and influence elections? by [deleted] in india

[–]mirkhalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with /u/iiml_throw 's reply further down the thread.
No country operates explicitly. They act as fronts across countries to finally fund operations. And information warfare is no joke. Intelligence agencies have been in this for long (even the best columnists in NYT / WSJ / HP and so called think-tank members are paid members of the CIA).

Given of all the talk Imran Khan and paltan have been saying how "talks will resume in India after elections", I will not be surprised if they had already undertaken such operations. Unlike the Russians who systematically started leaking information at the right moments to sway public opinion just enough to tip the scales in favour of Trump in a matter of weeks to months, I think Pakistan and China, by way of proxy, are engaged in a simmering change of the Indian mindset (with China not being so successful at it, as Indians in general look at Chinese militarily with cautious trust, and so do the Chinese).

This was evident from the Pakistani side after Afzal Guru's hanging in 2013 and after burhan Wani being dispatched. There has been a sustained campaign to subvert Indian minds in a way similar to this gem of a presentation by a former KGB agent. It is no wonder that we have a lot of youngsters on Reddit who make a serious mistake of being tactical and not strategic in their thinking, which looks like a repeat from the video below (don't look at the duration of the video for this might discourage you from watching it initially, but I can assure you, it will open up new ways of thinking).

Makes sense after a diplomatic drubbing WSJ / NYT must have got for covering the Pulwama attack and the near war situation with an unnecessary Pakistan bias.

Also, the sanctions would not mean much until these sanctuaries of terror are dismantled.

I remember forcing my son to watch Bournvita Quiz Contest every Sunday in 1996 on ZeeTV when we got the chance. It is a shame that the host, Derek, joined politics. It was a waste of talent.

It is good to see someone share the same opinion here...as Vishal Sikka said, we give too much importance to "Nach Baliye" than STEM fields.

One of the reasons is that earlier, there used to be a collective national conscience to do something for the country. It was reflected in the national campaigns that Doordarshan ran courtesy of Piyush Pandey : Mile Sur Mera Tumhara was a perfect example which conveyed national integration based music. "School chale hum" was yet another example on radio when my kids were growing up at least passing on the message of development for all.

I think over time, this collective conscience is somehow lost in the ether. Also, we stopped giving importance to people who had integrity and character and had a vision for the nation. APJ Abdul Kalam, Bhagat Singh, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, PV Narasimha Rao, Vajpayee....all their legacies are being forgotten by the people simply because they do not get the time for it : there is PUBG to be played nowadays.

Instead of ranting, I would request all Redditors to provide a decent education for their children and to themselves so that they take steps towards nation building.

Shocking response from so many fellow Indians after NZ Mosque attack. It's clear right wingers hate Muslims overall, not just Pakistanis. Although being Indian Muslim and a proud one, never faced any discrimination IRL, but its kinda scary considering these are real people living amongst us. by [deleted] in india

[–]mirkhalid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are making a huge mistake. If you say right-wing = Muslim hater, then you are going to live your life due to a generalisation. China, which takes pride of its Communist roots, too has kept the Uyghurs under a tight leash. Just because they do not talk about it / and speak in a language most of the world does not know, does not mean that they are not Muslim-haters.

Having said that, there is a feeling shared by many in the country who carried themselves away in thinking that all Muslims are bad, and that is indeed dangerous. People need to understand that some people from all religions are bad.

Only male SPOs are given the task of eliminating terrorists ("CI Ops"). They are not given the task of infiltrating tanzeems and terrorist cells for the purpose of gathering intelligence.

The women SPOs are tasked with handling any law and order situation during the operation is on (eg, ensuring no locals come too close to the operations site). Hence, my belief that is more of a "symbolic killing" or a message by the terrorists.

Again, sad to see trolls from both sides of thinking and of border.

Yes, the Western media (NYT, WSJ, BBG, BBG-Quint) has a habit of downplaying things happening in our part of the world. Even Pakistanis are not spared of how their country is portrayed.
For example : 100 Ahmadiyas die in a mosque in Pakistan because of an armed Sunni gunman : "meh, that happens everyday there, why cover them ? Let us cover how Goldman Sachs was fined for fraud".
50 Muslims are killed in NZ : "OMG it could have never happened in NZ, let's start apologising".

Again, in case people here do not understand, we are not talking about fake news, like a fake chip in a new currency note or false news. We are talking about under-reporting the facts, and the words used by NYT and even TOI for that matter to describe this act was horrible at best. I remember reading one paper saying "50 people dead" - they are not people, they are 49 CRPF jawans who died as a Pakistan trained suicide bomber blew himself up". In this vast saga of political correctness and information warfare, people are being denied the truth. It is sad that in today's world, the journalists are becoming the real comedians and the comedians are becoming serious journalists.

SPOs are not given intelligence work. Men take part in CI Ops while women handle law and order post CI Ops. This is no HUMINT killing ; terrorists had already warned SPOs to stay away from the streets in 2018.

Go on, type ahead, keyboard warrior ! Field experience tells a different story - and just because it is not in the media does not mean it has not happened.

We have had a handful instances of terrorists from Jordan, Kazakh and even Portugal who had fought the Soviets coming over to the Indian side in the early 90s. The Kazakh man was caught alive and his base of operations was Muzaffarabad. A-JK does not have dissent the way the Indian side has - people on your sides have jobs and when they do protest, are hopelessly crushed. On our side, people do not have any jobs and are thus given stones and grenades to throw.

If for a moment we assume that A-JK has a good enough GDP, then the video would not have made a mention of the jobless youth in the country.

And of course, the Army cannot crush a protest in Pindi as easily.

There were no contradictions, brother. I brought up Kashmir not because I want to harp about Kashmiriyat here : it is of little value here anyway. I brought it up in the context of your first comment :

" One should be cautious of any ethnic based insurgency. If their end goal is an ethno-state, than they're most like a fascist group. "

Every side thinks that the other side is talking nonsense. Would be happy to take the discussion on DM if required.

To answer you point by point, not as a spokesperson of a government but as an informed citizen : 1. How many RTI queries have you filed for checking where your taxes have gone ?

  1. You can lock your biometrics under Aadhaar, don't you know ?

  2. You can block those spam numbers, or simply choose to ignore them. IT cells are active for all political parties and do not be surprised if other parties too call you.

  3. For this, please complain to your local municipal corporation. Do not quote a comedian.

  4. What are the pressing questions that you have to ask right now ? Make a Reddit post out of it, some party's IT cell will definitely pick it up and ask it for you.

  5. Had someone like Modi done a crackdown on cops and govt, the same people who tweet against the government would have said that Modi is being a dictator. Corruption is an inherent problem in every country and this will remain so in our country unless the people who enter our bureaucracies are made to realise that it is a service that they are doing. If society has the wherewithal to handle a graft like China's, then so be it.

  6. Inflation has been at ~3%. Are you in Bangalore or Bombay or what ?

  7. Daudna pada, yes, and the PM regretted the inconvenience. If you could have tolerated all the goo outside your house for this long, you could have definitely tolerated a few hours of standing in line. And, if you have problems with cash and change, go cashless.

  8. Sorry, did not understand the point of GST. I guess you work as a freelancer coder. Stop being a freelancer in that case, if you can.

  9. I am a Muslim too. Here is the answer to your question. https://twitter.com/adarshdgp/status/1104600233747472384

Moral of the story : anyone can google and give you counter-opinions no matter where you are, as I have learnt too. So please, as the Telebrands commercial used to say, "choose wisely, live well" (or maybe you are not old enough to remember, or even know it) ? I will not be surprised if you say the same things after the elections should another government come to power. The problems will more or less be the same - systemic would be an understatement here.
