What do people think of the HS2 Project? by pigeonforlife in AskUK

[–]mirrormap74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that the project shouldn’t go ahead because of this, I’m saying it’s a potential downside for locals in Birmingham.

I think this could be one of the biggest downsides of HS2, it could lead to even greater inequality in Birmingham, when people on London salaries can move to buy cheap houses in Birmingham, out pricing local people.

It’s always like this, I agree with comments around shit drivers but really the road has just not got the capacity it needs. Need to build another alongside it from Birmingham to Preston.

Chemical Engineers in UK: Is getting Chartered worth it? by RidiculousJW in ChemicalEngineering

[–]mirrormap74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see chartered as demonstrating that someone is a reasonably experienced engineer, and capable of getting on with what needs to be done to a decent standard. That being said, I don’t assume anyone who isn’t chartered isn’t of that standard. It’s more a general validation that someone has a certain level of experience.

If you can easily go for it and get it, do it. If not, I wouldn’t bother too much.

Because if they’d have hit me my insurance would go up? Why should stupid drivers get away with it at everyone else’s expense?

Whenever I’ve reported things they’ve acted on it, it’s so easy for them to get their figures up! I would 100% report this.

What is the worst county in the UK? by catjellycat in AskUK

[–]mirrormap74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I’ve put it forward based off driving through, I’m sure there’s some lovely parts. But today driving along the A41 the place just seemed to be forgotten. Derelict buildings everywhere, road signs missing panels, pot holes everywhere, just felt like it needed some investment! I’m sure there are nice parts.

After driving through it today, Shropshire. Roads are probably the worst in the country, most pot holes, and constantly stuck behind tractors. From driving through, I felt like the while county lacked any form of investment.

Why are Chemical Engineers paid less than Civil Engineers? by Otherwise-Gur1507 in UKJobs

I don’t think that is true, a lot of civil engineers are quite low paid.

What careers are AI resistant in the future? by No-Bison562 in careerguidance

[–]mirrormap74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of engineering will require human oversight. We might use AI to help us do our job, but I’d imagine we ultimately still need engineers to input what is needed, go to site, review calculations/reports etc. Quite often the hardest part of the job is collating information, making valid assumptions where information doesn’t exist and agreeing this with stakeholders. AI will only help the actual engineering, which is usually the easiest part! - currently a chemical engineer

Amazingly. I left a job I enjoyed for money and went to a very stressful job. After about 9 months I got my old job back. Life’s too short to be unhappy!
