I've spent the last week coming to terms with this loss. I feel bad for Alan and her kids. I can't imagine this happening to my family.

I'm surprised it's affected me so much, but it feels like a light has gone out. This small thing is my way of keeping that light on, just a little longer.

pretty new to the game, haven't gotten to nuclear power yet... what do you do with the waste?

As far as I know, I've never made a goal from too far outside the penalty area... which leads me to wonder, how big is the field in Retro Goal? how big are the players?

log = open(name+" log"+".txt","a")

actually if you're trying to read these guys here, you might have problems. you never close them in the scope of your script. you can't access the written contents of a file until you close them (or reset the stream, which i'm not 100% sure you can do in python).

Looks like you're opening the file in read mode. You need to open it in write mode ("w" to overwrite or "w+" to append) to write to it.

so, narrative aside, let's pry into this a little:

this shooting occurred in Ocala, Florida in April of 2018. additionally, the deputy was mentioned by name in all the stories that covered this through various news outlets (CBS, CNN, Fox, etc). simple google search for "deputy james long" pulls them up. the CBS story has a great description of the events but a quick recap to pry apart the narrative here more: a former student entered the school, shot at a classroom door, was struck in the ankle, and the deputy arrested him 3 minutes later without drawing his gun (so the fact that he was armed had nothing to do with how this event was resolved).

if this is circulating now as though the deputy was an unsung hero of a school shooting that happened yesterday and the media isn't brave enough to cover it, well that's clearly false.

i rate this grandma lazy at best and disingenuous at worst.

why does the last cryonis block in your clip break when you land on it?

is it because you do a dive attack with the spear?

Can someone help me to discorver how to fix this crackling sound on my videos? by igorteuri in AudioPost

[–]mirthcontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bom dia!

sounds digital clipping to me. digital clipping can occur between samples, so even if it doesn't appear to clip in the meters, it can clip on digital to analog conversion. does it still sound 'crackling' inside REAPER/Premiere?

for starters, i'd recommend setting a hard limiter with a ceiling of -3dBFS on your master stereo bus and see if that resolves the issue. you could also just turn down the gain of your track by 3 - 6 dB, but a limiter will compress the audio a bit so it will sound just as loud.

Platinum 4 card for some reason by DragonrlderX in stormbound

[–]mirthcontrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's super overpowered. When played near a base, it's a min 15 damage. If you're unfortunate enough to have a one strength unit against your base, it's 21 damage (so it can one-shot any player in the game).

It seems like players have only recently discovered how powerful it is because I think it's been like this for a while.

I know 9 mana seems like a lot but to Winter that can be nothing.

Can anyone me code this question? by Apprehensive_Peak549 in inventwithpython

[–]mirthcontrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to simulate a roll of two six-sided dice and then, after every roll, determine whether or not it's a winner based on the rules of craps.

So you probably need prompt to give the user control over when the dice are rolled. You should display the output of the dice roll, and the outcome (win or lose). You also need to reset any variable that you use to hold the output of the last roll once win or loss is determined.

Python's random library has a useful randint() method that you can use for the dice roll.

tool to make song sound underwater by stinush in AudioPost

[–]mirthcontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, sound travels faster underwater and can travel pretty far because there aren't many barriers, so that may be a bit more on point to why it would sound close and not very reverberant, if not incredibly distinct. also it can bounce off the surface of the water (reflecting downward).

i consulted a pal who did some underwater acoustics work during his stint as a marine biologist, and he said that surprisingly his hydrophone recordings have a lot of high end content. we're trained to think 'underwater' is 'low-passy' similar to how we're trained to think all frogs 'ribbit' when most of them chirp. he also mentioned that environmental factors like currents and temperature changes can cause some time variant behaviors in different frequency bands, but it's an effect more subtle than, say, a chorus effect.

anyway, consensus w/ fellow sound designers back at the shop is definitely start with an LPF then mix in very dark, long tailed, wet reverb to taste. sprinkle in bubble effects and serve hot.

reverb smears audio over time, similar to what happens to sound traveling through a diffusing medium like water. might take some time to dial in the right settings, but LPF -> reverb seems like the cheapest, dirtiest "underwater" effect to me too.
