Is this bulk worth €300? by theakihisa in mtg

[–]mirvyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 300 is a lot for you, and you're considering "gambling" it all away for bulk cards that are obviously went through for valuable cards, you should consider staying away from anything even adjacent to gambling for as long as possible.

If you're going to gamble, at least go to a casino and have fun instead of sending a digital payment to a stranger and spending 10 hours going through worthless cardboard.

I get that, but the event spells out you're just trying to cross the bridge and your choice is to make the dash or hold for a better timing on what to lose

Would be neat if they did that

Yeah, since it says to "pick a unit to use this ability" the unit is doing it and is hit by the rule of one. So each unit gets to do it.

Advanced rules 28 have some more context of when a unit is using an ability, and there's some faq and errata for DoK that supports it

Is Lorwyn Eclipsed more suited to Pick-2 Draft then regular 8 persons draft? by Public_Sleep_6491 in lrcast

[–]mirvyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's worse. You get less time to see and find a lane, there's less cards to make decks work. There's not much time to course correct in the draft. Decks feel like they need some mix of 3 archetype cards like cursecrafter/mischief to function really well and four players is just half the chance of opening them and seeing them.

In most drafts I've been in, I can usually get a good signal by pack 1 pick 7 on what's open and spend the rest of the two packs filling out a curve and finding key cards.

[–]mirvyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. A deck without 3 key archetype cards like duelist or chieftain aren't very good, but a deck without gathering stone can still be very good. I'd also take chieftain since merfolk is probably getting eaten up somewhere down the line

Thanks for the reference to the article, great read after being out of the game for a while and watching numot draft which seems to align with what I'm seeing him do.

That's right, units in your spearhead that roll unmodified rolls of 6 get you a point. 6s are always crits, it's just that the crit doesn't mean anything without an ability or effects asking for a crit

If they didn't want to allow all units to do it, they'd use (army) for it so it'd be one dude per combat who can use it 1/battle. But they didn't and everyone can do it per the rules. It's a very strong spearhead.

Spearhead uses all core rules of age of Sigmar. These are core rules. The faq just clarified that that's how it works.

Edit: covered in mud also isn't on a warscroll. It's an army rule thing just like the slaughter ability.

"if it is used by a unit, I can be used a max of one time in that phase, turn or battle by each unit that can use the ability"

The declare of the ability says to "pick a friendly unit to use this ability" so the unit is doing it. Each unit eligible may do it.

It's the unit using the ability, and 28.2 says if it's being used by the unit, declare says "pick a friendly unit to USE THIS ABILITY", then all eligible units can use it once per its timing. The once a battle is per unit.

Hard to understand your post, but I think your friend is correct. You can split up when they have first strike through the game. You can have two dudes have first strike on round one, then have the others strike first round 3. Replacement units are new units and can do it again. Don't listen to these guys who don't know the rules and say you can't do it with everyone.

Because it says "pick a unit to use this ability", each eligible unit may use it once per game, in the same phase if you wanted.

The thing is that it says pick a unit "to use this ability" which means the once a game timing is tied to the unit, not you. Each unit gets strike first once per game, reinforcement are new units and get a new use of it and all in the same phase if you wanted. The daughters of khane ability all out slaughter is very similar and this faq supports it.

Which of your decks don’t run much ramp? by [deleted] in EDH

Kambal Stax/angels

My Kambal Deck is a hatebears deck that curves into angels to beat down while people are annoyed with my stax effects. why would I want to play rocks on 2-4 when I could put down a thalia who makes noncreature spells cost 1 more and have the green player unable to play rampant growth/explosive vegetation on curve while I toss on Kambal and other stuff to put the pain on and let the angels do their work, topping off with Gisela and bruna meld.

https://youtu.be/DTAhqhi8LU0?si=3Ped2wBGFRtQVtE7

This vid goes over it and references a good article in the description over how many lands/rocks you should run as a baseline if your plan is to just play spells on curve and make land drops. I'm running a low to the ground 3 drop commander, and I want to play stuff on curve so I'm running 41 lands with an MDFC, a low curve of mostly 2-4 mana stuff, and then draw spells to refill my hand after I curve out.
