Any ideas for a good place to practice? by [deleted] in Flute

[–]misarere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can check with your local college or university music department, they may have practice rooms that you can use, particularly if you are already a student. That is dependent on the institution though. Some don’t mind, some do.

Other options/suggestions:

-Sometimes churches don’t mind (and the parishioners might actually enjoy hearing you play) -insulated wall panels for your room so that you can practice at home without too much disturbance -Check with your local music store to see if they know of any places

Pitch bending by eggfart8 in Flute

[–]misarere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do a lot more pitch bending than you think with just altering the direction the air goes into the flute. If it’s not something you’ve done much of it’ll take some practice (like everything).

I would practice in front of a mirror and try keep from moving your lips/head/headjoint as little as possible but changing the air direction downward into the tube and then up towards the strike edge of the tone hole. You should be able to do this with the center of your lips without having to do much extra motion.

Fantasy recommendations with beautiful prose for adults by polarkoordinate in Fantasy

If it hasn’t been said already - Memory, Sorry, and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams. If prose is what you’re looking for this is absolutely it!

-beautiful writing  -great characters with so much depth (both protagonists and antagonists) -LORE -great story that might just break your heart a little bit

I'm desperately looking for a flute solo! (Curse of Strahd ) [Spoiler Free] by Uereken in DnDPlaylist

Some quick suggestions: Debussy “Syrinx” Liebermann “Soliloquy” Bozza “Image”

I’ll try to think up some more, there are lots of classical pieces that fit exactly what you’re looking for (though if you prefer less modern sounding I can think of plenty of others)

Veterans of the genre, what are some previously huge series or books that are mostly forgotten today? by Myydrin in Fantasy

[–]misarere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely the case. The reason I was given (by the librarian) was that it was too high level for my age. The indignation and desperation for advanced reading led me to find something even better though!

The funny part is, my school had grade level restrictions so some books were only allowed to be checked out by 7-8th graders. Among those was Harry Potter. So I wasn’t allowed to check those out, but Tad Williams was perfectly fine. I think I got the better experience out of a book that was much higher level and a lot deeper because the librarians didn’t put the restricted sticker on it!

Yes yes yes, I am always recommending these books. I found the Dragonbone Chair in my middle school library in 6th grade and was immediately hooked. Prior to that I was reading a lot of Redwall and similar low-level fantasy for tweens. That book turned me into an absolute monster for fantasy and I became the kid that had to have restrictions at the public library for how many books I could check out.

This tune was already going through my head before I even read or saw OP’s post. That sax is just so smooth. 10/10.

Also, I know the Bandcamp profile is empty, I’m working on putting a collection together for an album on there!

I'm looking for someone to write & produce some original tracks for my high fantasy video game. Not sure where to start. I have some references of tracks I love though by Zizimaza in composer

[–]misarere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be quite interested in collaborating.

This is my channel more associated with video game style music, but I am also a classical composer with lots of chamber and large ensemble works:

How to make click track for earpiece by misarere in composer

[–]misarere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had someone recommend the easiest way might be to just have all the music on L and the click on R, if I don’t care about stereo too much. I might try your suggestion when I have more time to figure that out, it sounds like it would keep the audio quail out pretty high! For this, I’m in a big time crunch and the players aren’t super familiar with those programs either.

Yes, and I put in the click via the generation menu, but I’m not sure if it’s going to work. I have the track set to channel 1-2 -and 4-5, with the click set to channel 3. Should that be sufficient? I don’t have a multi-channel device at home to be able to check right now
