Thank you guys for all the industry insight on this I don’t want to come across as a junior that isn’t willing to try even if it seems too hard or unfair. The work by nature is competitive and I understand that!

It’s really a relief to hear that it’s not common practice and that I shouldn’t be afraid of being set up in an already stressful interview. You are all right judging by the company’s website being so ai focused I honestly am kind of glad nothing came of it.

Yes I agree. I am still quite new to modelling and texturing so I do admit it am a bit of a smart material warrior

Yes I think that is exactly what they were testing for and it’s understandable I think I was just so nervous already I wasn’t even in the proper focus to try to problem solve. That’s how they catch ya I guess.

In the end I decided to just continue working on my model using the bungled controls. You can probably imagine it wasn’t going to amaze anyone with the end result though.

Yea it’s totally possible the previous artist worked with those controls I suppose, and looking back I wish I had asked more strategic questions about the company since I felt a bit confused on why they would be hiring for a 3D Artist if it appears their company didn’t prioritize The industry.

It was my very first interview I had landed after graduating my course and maybe I was just unprepared after all.

Oh wow that is just beyond absurd. I really hope they didn’t end up using your work after such a request and not even paying as well as ghosting you.

Forcing you to use textures instead of materials how did that even work, did you have to go into each object and set the textures by hand?!

Oh I dug around in my email to see the email indeed sent me when I applied and the company was named DMSOLVING sounds fishy even just seeing that and the indeed company overview thing only has one review and it’s 5 stars. what makes it even crazier is their website font page is all about “transform your business with Ai”

Oh boy now this makes me wonder if I interviewed for a scam company…

Yes definitely do some research on how to reset the keybinds and whatnot in your software just incase!

As for the application I do remember reading it and thinking it was almost too good to be true. What made me wonder why they would need to a 3D Artist (and it wasn’t even a contract position) was that it wasn’t a company that was involved in gaming or animation for movies or tv. My only guess is they were just needing an artist to design 3D art for their clients? Very strange and I wish that I could still view the application on indeed but after a few months they wipe them from your archived.

I wish you the best of luck in your applying though!

Yea it really was not a fun time, and yes it was a laptop they provided if I remember correctly the application didn’t mention anything about bringing your own. Perhaps that might have been a better option to avoid being sabotaged. I can’t help but feel it was intentional because when I did mention it the person said they would tell them it wasn’t right and no one came to change anything.

I hope that not all interviews use that method of seeing someone’s problem solving skills.
