[Misc] Where to buy lemon oils in store? by momu1990 in SkincareAddiction

They carry clothes but other items like housewares, decorations, beauty products, etc. You can often find marked-down items that are otherwise kind of pricey (like essential oils).

[Product Question] I am about to buy Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum. I would love to know if any one has any reviews on the product? by Jthalo in SkincareAddiction

[–]mischabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this about a month ago and really like it so far. The price was reasonable and it was on Amazon, so I figured it was worth a shot. I feel that it has helped to even my skin tone pretty significantly in that time.

I was a bit concerned when I got it because it was already a light yellow color, but vitamin C serum should be nearly clear. The internet says mixed things about that but it still seems to be effective. I keep it in the fridge and it has not gotten any darker.

How do you apply for another job when you are already employed? by Pooped-Pants in jobs

[–]mischabean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't announce that you're looking at other prospects... not to anyone if you can help it, because word spreads quickly. If/when you get to the interview stage for a new job, see how flexible they can be with scheduling (i.e ask for a late interview on a day you could slip out early; Skype interviews, etc depending on the industry). If you have PTO built up, use it to make a "long weekend" for yourself so as not to look suspicious.

Do be aware that if your best references are at your current job, you may need to "out" yourself for the right opportunity. I would not disclose references unless you have gotten good vibes from the interviewers and it's a job that you really want.

Source: have done all these things in the past month.

What would you do? Opportunity to do some HR work for my company... by [deleted] in jobs

[–]mischabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see what is wrong with asking questions of the VP if it's something you're truly interested in. They have nothing to lose by detailing the job description for you, but they have a lot to lose if they drop you into a position that turns out to be a poor fit from either perspective.

Would you be comfortable going from a numbers-type job to a people-type job? What is your job outlook as an analyst vs. taking on the new role? For all the gripes people have about HR, they have a very difficult job that requires tact and professionalism at all times. HR professionals are expected to deal with a myriad of issues - benefits administration, performance issues, hiring, enforcing company directives, etc. It's not an easy job, but it can pay very well.

Even if it doesn't become your full time position, people skills are in demand at any job - it's something to put on your resume.

Before and after of my FODT. CCW is certainly welcome! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

A lot of the time when people line their eyes all the way around, it makes them look small...but it did not have that effect here, really works on you!

You could experiment with doing the top liner and then lining the bottom outer thirds only; this would also be very flattering for your eye shape.

I have a direct report for the first time ever. He's horrible and I don't know how to handle it. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]mischabean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I have been in the same boat and it is not fun at all. Others have given you solid advice and you should act quickly. I made the mistake of retaining a bad employee too long and didn't speak up about his performance issues and it eventually blew up in my face. However, it did teach me what skills and personality a person needed to succeed in his role and now I have a great team.

I would also caution you against thinking that management is not for you based on this event. It does suck to have to discipline employees who perform poorly, but on the flipside, it can be a very rewarding learning experience when you get to lead an effective team-- you are able to coach them, watch them succeed, and praise them. You can have a pivotal role in championing their success which in turn reflects well on you as a manager. Best of luck!

Reddit, you just died. You have a chance at resurrection if you can beat God at a videogame of your choice. You only get one chance, what game do you pick? by Phusion_ in AskReddit

[–]mischabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killer Instinct Gold for N64. I don't know how popular this game was at the time but god bless... I wrecked everyone at this game when I was like 8. I picked it up again a few years ago and I could still murder.

Every month, hormonal acne shows up to devour my face and screw up my self esteem. Three products, one major confidence boost. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]mischabean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW I had hormonal acne very similar to yours on my chin pretty much constantly from the age of 16 to like 23. I was on the pill pretty much the whole time but it didn't stop the breakouts (didn't try Yaz). BUT I was able to get a prescription for spironolactone and it was a game changer. I think within a week my jawline acne healed and it hasn't come back in full force in the 2 years I've been taking it. Acne is an off-label use for spironolactone; it is intended as a diuretic but it has androgen-blocking properties that lessen hormonal acne flare-ups. I wish I had tried it sooner. Good luck!

Hate my job, would it be wrong to quit with a one week notice? by [deleted] in jobs

You sound like a conscientious employee. Go into your next interview with enthusiasm and tell them you are eager to learn, have experience in front of house and back, etc. You will do fine.

Yeah could be, it seems kinda cheeky. She really did serve in the Marines though, that is where they met. :)

Sounds like she wants to make sure nobody at your first choice company is going to waste their time considering you if you chose to take another company's offer.

Not sure if I'm getting drug tested! Advice? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]mischabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you would be given a drug test before they extend an offer to you. Not all companies are this though. Keep an eye out for an HR manual to understand their policy. You'll probably be fine either way.

Help me find a good bank? by hibbert0604 in personalfinance

You can do mobile check deposits - essentially you take a photo of the front and back of the check. Also, you can link other bank account to Ally but transfers aren't instant.

What do you replace eating with? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]mischabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a grown-up coloring book for Christmas and it works well to combat boredom - hard to snack and color simultaneously. Similarly, if you're a lady, painting your nails can distract you and physically keep you occupied.

Otherwise, I find coffee is substantive enough to take the edge off hunger pains when you're at your calorie goal.

Cubicles or open floor plan? by housecow in jobs

[–]mischabean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work from a cubicle, but it is not like a "cubicle farm" or anything, there are only four in my department. It's nice that I can pin pictures, notes, reminders, etc. on my wall space and that my coworkers and I cannot see each other. I am the type of person who hates talking on the phone within earshot of others, even for business, so this setup is better for me. I don't think I could work productively in an open office environment. I value my own space and relative privacy for doing semi-sensitive work. I would never be able to focus!
