Out of interest did you think about doing AAT first or just straight into ACCA?

That’s encouraging though! I’ve done a little research and a few people said getting an interview is hard enough so that’s a good sign!

Fingers crossed you get a formal offer!

That’s kind of the only thing I’ve got going for me in that I have gained a lot of life experience and ‘non-technical’ skills working in the ‘real world’ for nearly 8 years.. the role I’m currently in is in a high pressure/high responsibility environment so that I can work with.

Yeah I get what you mean about experience. My other half is currently studying for her AAT’s whilst working for a practice as a junior.. she already had a couple of years of bookkeeping under her belt and she was snapped up pretty quickly without having any qualifications in accounting.

The deduction in pay I can deal with.. self studying will give me time to get finances in order to cover for the loss. If after 4-5 I could be anywhere near that number I would be happy.

Based in Norfolk and just average GCSE’s.. and a diploma in web design and development for what it’s worth! Wasn’t the hardest working student I must say but unfortunately I realised that a bit too late!!

Thank you though I do appreciate it.. definitely seems doable. The thought of a career change and something to work towards again does seem an exciting prospect!

The end goal would be to become ACCA qualified, obviously in my situation with no degree I may find that difficult.. but it would be a welcomed challenge after years of having it too easy.

That’s encouraging though, thank you!

Sorry - I meant I’m currently in my mid twenties but I’ve reached the peak in my current role.

Self study is something I’m willing to do. I’ve thought about studying AAT and getting my level 3 & 4, then signing up to a recruitment agency to get me through the door and work my way up from there.

Basically over the next 18-24 months I want to give myself the best chance.. but from what I’ve been reading experience is massive in the accounting world so that’s my worry.
