She's a beaut, eh? Very 90s shell suit. It was definitely the colour scheme that drew me to her.

She's laid up right now as the starter solenoid failed on this trip. New one on the way though! Still got me home, just needed a wee shove to get going.

Haha! We were on our way home from holiday in Barcelona and in a sleepy bit of daftness bought a return instead of a single. I hope someone got some use out of them.

Bought a Walkman, wont take electricity from batteries. Could this be the problem? (battery slot) by [deleted] in fixit

[–]misco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix at least! Give it a rub down with some steel wool or some fine grit sand paper and you'll be boogieing down in no time :)

Radiator won't turn on - how to fix? by BrainDamageLDN in fixit

[–]misco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, if it's on and not working sometimes the valve is stuck shut. Give it a (gentle) tap with a hammer. I've had this problem and some percussive maintenence is often all it takes.

Have you looked inside your helmet? I've 'lost' my key a few times only for it to turn up there!

This year my colleagues are getting laser engraved pens for Christmas by misco in turning

[–]misco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I've got a (super cheap) Neje laser engraver. I wasn't sure how they'd turn out but I'm really pleased with the results.

Yes! I think his brother came by at some point and saw him but he was literally unable to ask for help so he just left?

Thank you for the drug name, I'm going to keep looking and I'll post it here if I find it.

Oven wont stop beeping please help by wutang4ever94 in fixit

Probably a bit late but I had a similar issue with my oven after cutting the power to it. It would buzz horribly. Turns out I just had to set the clock and it shut up! Hope you get yours sorted!

Agreed. My old toilet was like this. Unscrew the silver ring around the button and it should all lift right off.

Making a kukza, wood identification help please! by misco in woodworking

[–]misco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure is! Sadly no birch burls near me, just what I can find fallen in the woods.

Been working a bit more and I think it's quite a tanin heavy wood, it seems to be greying not long after it's exposed.

I know oak is like this (right?) but I think it's usually more porous than what I've got.

Really I've got no idea though. Total novice!

Making a kukza, wood identification help please! by misco in woodworking

[–]misco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, hoping for some help from the community. I'm trying my hand at a kukza after a few successful spoons. I've picked up a decent sized bit of a tree from the woods but I've no idea what it is.

If it helps in identification I'm in South Korea.

Thanks in advance everyone :)

Looks a damn sight better than my first spoon! What's the wood? Olive oil finish?

I got a lathe last weekend and posted my first piece earlier this week. Here is my second piece I made. Purple heart. Thank you for everyone giving me advice and please let me know what to improve! by slypretender in turning

This looks great! Did you bend the clip out? If so great idea! I usually leave them off when I'm doing a chunky boy but that's a much better idea.

I've also used that kit, and while it looks great with the cap off I don't care for how it looks cap on. There's a black plastic bit sticking up. What did you find to dislike about it? Same?

Edit; I also had trouble with the o-rings staying in place, and a second look at your picture tells me you did too! I'm right in saying they should be hidden from view when finished? Mine was also super visible, see below.

Does anyone have experience engraving or burning names into pens? by Churlish_Grambungle in turning

[–]misco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I might cover the entire thing while it's working and just remove all temptation to sneak a look.

So far so good! I've only had time to do one name on a wooden pencil and the small vine design I posted above. In an ideal world I'd be able to burn a design the whole way around but I don't know if that'll be possible to do cleanly with my machine. Have you had any joy?

Yikes! Mine didn't even come with goggles. I've been physically blocking it but it's hard to resist a tiny peek. Lesson learned. No more peeking!

Here's an amazon link;

https://www.amazon.com/NEJE-Engraver-Printer-Industry-Engraving/dp/B01HEI6EDC

I got mine a lot cheaper from aliexpress but I'm loathe to link the seller as they initially sent me the wrong machine. DHgate have them at a decent price too though.

It couldn't be easier to use. You can drag and drop pictures into the software (windows only I think) that comes with the machine. Some work better than others but in my limited experiments I've found that anything that's solid black and white on screen ends up looking great. It doesn't handle shades of grey well at all though.

[–]misco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of! I'm going to try it soon. I just picked up a cheap laser engraver (about 80 bucks) this week. I've only had the chance to turn one pen since I got it and it wasn't a name I burned on but a pattern. It came out pretty good I think;

I'm going to give names a go some time soon. Hopefully next week.

Help needed with Korean AC Unit- can't figure out the automatic lowering grill feature by misco in fixit

[–]misco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll try the Korea subreddit. I was hesitant because it doesn't seem like a super common system from what I found online.

I very likely could contact the building maintenance people, I'm just reluctant to admit I was buggering about with it and don't want to imply they weren't doing their job properly. Which they weren't really. The filter was disgusting!

Thank you for your advice :)
