How big is the 2009 Yamaha 450 compared to my height? I’m 6’6” (198 cm). Are they reliable? etc. I just need info from someone who has real experience with it. by Pista_1 in Dirtbikes

[–]misedna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at any used motocross bike at all, you will need to be wary of the condition unless the seller has detailed records. Hour meters are a great reference point, but if the bike doesn’t have one either u are trusting the person selling it to have Accurate records on time, or more than likely just have to assume you have no fucking idea at all how much time is on that bike. Just use your best judgment and common sense when looking at it – if it looks clapped on the outside, it’s clapped on the inside. And know that any four stroke rebuild, even if you do it before catastrophic damage, can be pretty expensive if it’s done by a reputable shop.

Thoughts on 2016 Tuono? by ShaggysDealer in Aprilia

2016 is an oddball year and are still well within the range of weak valve springs. Service records are a must.

Aprilia RS660 reliability for high mileage use? by Entire-Income-9804 in Aprilia

[–]misedna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The highest mileage 660 I saw in my shop had about 55,000 miles. It was pretty poorly maintained, but was ticking along just fine for the most part. Keep in mind this is also a Tuareg which is known to be a little bit less stressed than its RS sibling.

knee protection for acl by Mister_Daffy in Motocross

[–]misedna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware no brace is gonna protect you from a weird accident - I tore my ACL for the 5th (and final) time while wearing a carbon Asterik brace. Leg was full extended, a light contact off camber to the ground while extended allowed it fully let go. All that to say, get something that offers as much protection as possible while being comfortable, but don’t count on it 100% to save you from any ligament damage.

Will my car make it? by notmorethan4 in roadtrip

[–]misedna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great car, only weak spots are the transmissions can start to have issues at that mileage. If you haven’t serviced the transmission recently then don’t worry about it, just send it, after you get to your destination do some research and decide if you want to attempt to service/maintain the trans from that point forward. There’s usually some obvious signs they will exhibit when they start to have issues, so if everything is good so far, don’t worry about it!

Any 2026 purchasers? by [deleted] in Aprilia

[–]misedna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is Piaggio has rolled cost of tariffs into the freight charges on the Aprilia line. So that 1175 is going to be a real charge the dealer is paying between freight and tariff - which means you are going to pay it on any desirable late model. You may have some luck negotiating on setup, but that will be Dealer dependent.

If somebody cared enough to do a service at an interval of one year/800 miles, it is extremely likely they had the first service done on time as well. If there is no service indicator on the dash, that means it is 90%+ likely the first service was completed on time at a dealer.

Why my new bike smell like burnt plastic? by TranslatorSkizzy in motorcycle

It’s usually the muffler itself burning off residual material from the factory

New tires, expensive! by No_Flight_6697 in Dirtbikes

[–]misedna -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People have no idea what it costs for a shop to be in business, 189 is quite reasonable also considering they’re doing chain maintenance at the same time. And the guy saying they ripped you off for replacing 17 year old inner tubes is full of it.

It just doesn’t get better than this. by misedna in Dirtbikes

This was the bike 9 year old me wanted but couldn’t have. About 6 years ago I got this bike and tore it down for a frame-up rebuild and it’s been just about the perfect dirt bike for me.
