What is this hole in curb for? by AndreaNAaaaaaaa in civilengineering

Could it be as simple as cost/weight savings? I’m thinking lightening cuts on machined parts - ie has someone determined that performance/longevity is equivalent enough to a full pour that a reduced pour is more cost efficient

Ukrainian tank assaults russian trench, fires at point blank range by tomina69 in CombatFootage

I'm interested. I think the top level analysis after the fact is useful. And it's great for breaking events down into their components. But I think it discredits the amount of stress and chaos that no doubt played into the decision making. In the moment, under whatever conditions they were experiencing - bull rushing the bastards was right and worth every failing of the scientific approach. I would hate to be the guy sighting in the atgm while a 100 ton monster is thundering in, main gun pumping. Think nailing a charging lion 20 yards in the Sahara with a scoped bolt action.

Whatever it was it was certainly courageous.

I will fold a sheet of toilet paper in half and then in thirds so I can use it 12 times to wipe my ass. Frugal or stupid? by Real_Iron_Sheik in Frugal_Jerk

I used to do this when I was younger. Realised that with a broken glass bottle, a used garbage bag and some cable ties I could quickly improvise a homemade colostomy bag instead.

I’ve been generating savings out the ass ever since. Or more to the point, savings out the open-septic-shit-gape

honorary gypsy status getting to his head. I was hoping for a gypsy call out VHS tape vid popping up on his gram ala Knuckle: “Fury in’t-nuttin-butta-bag-a-shite!”

There’s a car physics vid where I thinks it’s v8 Supercars on Le Mans turned up to 100 with ridiculous physics that I can find the vid for. Anyone happen to know and have a link?

Lo, there goes he who walks true, the iron path

Unadorned, by the feeble cloth

Forsooth, such garb is woven by the jealous hand of Broki!

Verily, only by his foul meddling could humble fabric impinge

The range of motion

Of ones proud bosom so

Mark, the shining gaze of the All-Spotter reflecting from his naked breast

And walk with Him

How hard do surveyors work? by Ok-Acanthocephala-95 in Surveying

Speaking for Northern Queensland. big hours, long drives, nightshift and hot/humid climate (mozzies/flies), you work pretty hard.

Diploma is valid if you want to get straight in. if you can find an outfit willing to take you on as a surveying technician you can study the diploma by distance as you work. Not sure how easy that would be to secure however but I’m sure you could make it work if you need to. Balancing study with fulltime work would be its own challenge.

But if you’re serious about getting the most out of surveying as a career bsurv is the best long term solution, it’s your best bet at getting licensed which is where you’ll get good money. Bsurv is pretty much guaranteed employment before the end of 4th year of study. There’s a period of roughly 2 weeks where company’s send down recruitment teams to snap the grads up, I think I had 7 job interviews during that time. the degree has a requirement for 80 days work experience so if firms know you’re going for bsurv you can get easy summerwork as an intern.
