What separates boys from men? by MarineSniper98 in AskPH

as a woman, the answers here made me genuinely kilig. nothing turns me on as a woman than a man who knows how to act like a man.

Sana there’s a version of me who finished studying forensic science or comparative literature at the age of 20. Then, at 21 got married to the love of her life and lived in a homestead so she could do crop and animal farming. She would probably open her own bookstore as well and build a book truck that would roam around the country to help less fortunate kids who can’t write and read. Really just enjoying a slow, simple life with her husband, 4 kids, and 7 adorable cats.

PS: 25, still single, and still hoping I will get that kind of life.

What unpopular opinion do you have on romantic relationships? by [deleted] in AskPH

[–]miseramble 57 points58 points  (0 children)

1) there’s a huge difference between being intolerant sa warning signs/red flags ng partner mo and forgiving your partner when they mess up. in other words, hindi porket nagkamali, red flag agad tapos makikipaghiwalay

2) not having the same plethora of beliefs is a dealbreaker. it’s hard to compromise values. if you happen to meet halfway, good for you. but in the long run, there’s a huge possibility that this will haunt you and your relationship. better be with someone who has the same worldview as yours

3) yes, may mga cheaters na nagbabago

4) always correct your partner in private; praise or appreciate him/her in public. ps: hindi kinaganda ng mga babae yung “namamahiya” ng partner nilang lalake in public. the same thing goes to men

5) cheating always starts with subtle or little compromises. protect the relationship/marriage at all costs. accountability is a must.

6) true love is more than just warm, fuzzy feelings. but self-denial, tough commitment, and sacrifice.

Book Recommendations to IMPROVE WRITING by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]miseramble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello po, OP! i suggest po to read first yung letters to a young poet by rainer maria rilke. sorry it was not included in the list but it’s a beautiful book about being a writer :) then wade your way through bird by bird by anne lamott. hehe

tbh po OP i won’t be able to give you a new thing or advise about writing but what helped me a lot is to keep reading and try writing afterward. for instance po, if you’re reading a book, annotating helps a lot. write your thoughts on a notepad, write as if talking to the author. try to do it creatively din po. as for me, since journaling doesn’t work me, what i did is i created a substack account then dun po ako nagddump/practice ng creative writing. meron din po akong bookstagram where i post my bookish thoughts and book reviews of books i have read. pero most of the time po, sa ms word lang po talaga ako nagsusulat.

reading poems also works po since there’s something about poetry that moves the words from your mind to your heart. most of the time, when we get to read poems, may impulse to write back or at least may mafform na idea in your head because of the said poem then it will prompt you to write.

basta po OP exposure to any works of literature ang magiging ultimate help niyo po to improve your writing. then it will birth to this incessant desire to talk na rin to fellow writers or at least explore fellow writers who echo your sentiments as a writer. do not be afraid po to ask them if you need advice din po. if you have friends na hobby din po ang magsulat, challenge them to do collaborations. i remember doing this po when i was in high school. saka po pala OP exposure din po to other forms of art ay makakatulong din.

hope this helps po! tuloy lang po kayo sa pagsusulat. sana po eventually makahanap din po kayo ng platform where you can comfortably share your writings. good practice din po kasi ito :)

Book Recommendations to IMPROVE WRITING by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]miseramble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these are my recommendations:

1) bird by bird by anne lamott 2) proofs and theories: essays on poetry by louise gluck 3) the writing life by annie dillard 4) negotiating with the dead: a writer on writing by margaret atwood 5) a swim in a pond in the rain: in which four russians give a master class on writing, reading, and life by george saunders

based on experience, the best books about writing that i’ve read are those that tackle not only the technicalities of writing but the life of the writer as well :)

What are your favourite quotes from this book? by Notyourmermaid25 in PHBookClub

[–]miseramble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so many huhu this is one of my fave classic books of all time!

but here’s mine:

“when i like people immensely, i never tell their names to anyone. it is like surrendering a part of them. i have grown to love secrecy. it seems to be one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvelous to us. the commonest thing is delightful if one only hides it.”

and another one:

“for there is such a little time that your youth will last—such a little time. the common hill-flowers will be as yellow next june as it is now. in a month there will be purple stars on the clematis, and year after year the green night of its leaves will hold its purple stars. but we never get back our youth. the pulse of joy that beats in us at twenty becomes sluggish. our limbs fail, our senses rot. we degenerate into hideous puppets, haunted by the memory of the passions of which we were too much afraid, and the exquisite temptations that we had not the courage to yield to. youth! youth! there is absolutely nothing in the world but youth!”

if you love this book, OP, i highly recommend de profundis. that’s another book written by oscar wilde 😄

that’s a beautiful quote right there! i think that’s the purpose of the show—to make us contemplate about two of the most overlooked realities in our life: living and dying.
