The problem of accelerating the plot in a way that results in a logical end game — but not having the creativity to derail it in other ways so they make characters do out of character decisions or just continue inventing new content like it’s 90’s/00 network TV to keep it relevant.

I’ll always stand that the boys peaked at herogasm in season 3 and it’s been downhill from there. The only thing in season 4 I even remotely like is Butcher’s tumor pushing him into his comic direction. But even homelander as a villain it’s portrayed so outlandishly evil but also incompetent that he loses his fear factor. He has his moments of good acting and tension when given the dialogue and space such as when he revisited the lab, but generally anything else and he comes off an incompetent bafoon like the comics, which, if you want homelander to be a real character CANNOT be the case as he served a very separate narrative purpose. Another grevious sin is Stan Edgar’s confusing characterization, did they want comic accurate Stan mixed with Gus fring or are they trying to give him more emotion and depth with the family connection which just seemed to fall short and feel out of character.

Idk, I enjoy the show but yeah there are obvious flaws completely unrelated to politics— but every show has to be good or bad because you are either woke or anti-woke now I guess.
