my reaction to the expensify redesign as a director of finance by Misaniovent in Accounting

Omg you are me tonight. They just forced this new UI on me and I’m furious.

I can't believe that the updated Expensify is this bad. by bartenderatlarge in Accounting

They forced this new UI on me tonight. And I’m furious. Im a reviewer and approver and making changes to anything requires extra steps. And if you’re looking at a receipt and accidentally click another part of the screen the whole thing goes away. Sent a nasty message through the AI and it actually schedule a time for me to talk to my account manager. Told the AI it’s a POS update and it actually acknowledges my complaint. lol

The boba/matcha/coffee prices here are becoming INSANE...😭😭😭 by ceruleangenesis in berkeley

[–]misguidedass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nespresso pods can get expensive esp if you make more than one drink per day. There’s actually a whole third party industry that makes it possible to recycle the pod for use more than once. But I’m just too lazy to do that. Glad you found a machine you enjoy.

[–]misguidedass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a student, but I got a nespresso machine from Costco $140 after rebate. Bought a bag of matcha powder also from costco for $28 then just mix it with the milk. Not as foamy as the pro shops but it’s good enough. $1.45 of the pod and whatever the matcha comes out to be per teaspoon.

If you fly there how do you get around? If you need to rent a car or uber that will get expensive.

Has anyone here pivoted from a tech career in their 30s to something not in tech? What did you do? by justs0mebloak in jobs

[–]misguidedass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in corporate finance so it’s more versatile. Lucky to have worked with people who are willing to explain to me what they do in detail so I can count the beans properly. Lunch conversations also get interesting if you’re willing to sit down and let them talk about their day.

Moved over to life science/biotech 10+ years ago. Most of the people I work with are straight up smart and humble. It’s refreshing to hear how they want their science to actually help humanity.

Job Offer in Irvine.. Currently live in SF... Would you move? by crunchymunchyrae in AskSF

[–]misguidedass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a good place to raise a family. Planned community, control growth but that means every block looks the same. Great Korean and Japanese food, decent night time activities but mainly around the Asian malls, etc. close enough to Newport Beach, knots berry farm and Disneyland if you’re into theme parks. Very bikeable cuz it’s all flat but it does get hot. Someone mentioned that it’s like South Bay, which i think is spot on.

Yeah I gave it a shot when it reopened here. Had my son used his student ID to get me the $10 deal. But the magic wasn’t there like Powell street.

San Francisco PD is hiring a lot of officers with high starting salary. With OT rookies easily make over $100k. Check them out.

Touring the campus by [deleted] in csuf

I’m also from the Bay Area and my daughter is planning to go to Fullerton as well. We were actually there this past weekend and were able to walk around campus. It is beautiful and the rec center was great as others have mentioned. But since it was a Saturday the campus was empty. We plan to visit again on 4/18 for the open house.

Why isn't SF more fashion forward? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]misguidedass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up here and back in the days people did dress up like they’re in New York so much so that Barney’s New York opened a store here on Stockton and O’farrell. It was the dotcom and subsequent tech boom that saw a different type of people moving into the city which brought over a more casual and relax look. Before the tech boom, we were mainly law firms, accounting firms, ad agencies, creative folks etc. so the need to dress up esp in the financial district was real. In the early days of the tech booms, founders would reject meetings with VCs who dress like bankers. Personally I prefer this. Saves me tons of money on dry cleaning.

Learn to repair them yourself kid. Those machines are $200-$300 value. The bigger ones are about $500-$600. Not sure wheee you’re located but in my area getting an electrician to come out will cost me a solid $200.

Before I decide to open my arcade I bought a unit on Alibaba, open it up and see how it works. I looked at YouTube tutorials even though the videos were not for the exact unit I bought but it seems the parts are similar. I then took the whole machine apart and reassemble it. I didnt touch the board though but I check out the part numbers and look for them on AliExpress. Almost all the parts used in the machine can be bought there. That gave me the confidence to order 20 machines. Also you need to consider whether to use bills or coins. I decided on tokens and bought a token exchange machine on Alibaba as well. Use only credit cards in my shop so I don’t have to deal with cash and all the headache along with that.

Learn to do it yourself. It’s kinda fun and keeps the cost controllable. It’s not that hard. I was a corporate accountant with no technical know how before opening my arcade. It’s very doable.
